Prospective University of Washington, Winter 2016 transfers?

If your transcript loaded, what does it say when you click on your Transfer Application: Winter Quarter 2016. I’m from UW Tacoma so my unofficial has my current grade report from UWT. I’m not sure whether it will load as Seattle at some point even if I was admitted since I’m still enrolled at UWT this quarter? I’m so anxious.

@Ninebe Are you getting this message under registration for winter: “You are not eligible to register for this quarter”

Also, what does it list for your major on the registration page?

@qwertyytrewq2 byes, it does for me… i thin it because we are “newbies” and do not have a priority registration

Wow… I want to die! My transcript hasn’t loaded. Nothing in the mail today either.

I called UW admissions again lol and they just said the usual… acceptances are sent through the end of November sometimes into December, in random order…

You gotta be kidding me. I wonder what I did wrong…? I really thought I was a shoo-in. I went over my transcript with a UW adviser last spring and she was really enthusiastic about me applying, said I would be a great fit and whatnot.

Oh well.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten their transcript to load!!! I’ll just be here with my cat looking up universities to attend in Norway. lol.

Yeah my transcript hasn’t loaded either, which I’m taking as a sign of not being a priority applicant. What a slap in the face. Even of they offer me the “leftovers” admissions in late Nov early Dec, it won’t matter. F*** that. All the classes i want will be filled anyway. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s NOT easy to talk your way into a full class. And why should I be forced to grovel for the classes that I need anyway??

Congratulations guys!!! Yay

Since I paid for the confirmation fee for Bothell I think my transcript won’t change for Seattle before receiving it via mail :frowning:

@qwertyytrewq2 Don’t worry. I share your frustration 100%. I have some choice words for the UW admissions people right now. Hahaha.

With regards to the classes, you can’t register for classes until after your orientation, and the registration for winter admit orientation doesn’t open up for another week, so even if you get in a week from today you will still be signing up for classes with all the other transfers. (If that makes sense)

I don’t really know what to believe about the order they send out decisions in. It doesn’t seem to be relative to applicant “quality” or “priority” because plenty of less-competitive GPA/low credit folks hear back early. Not sure if I buy the “acceptances are sent out by major” thing either since that doesn’t seem to line up with what actually happens. I was just told that they are sent out randomly in batches by an admissions officer, so who knows anymore lol.

Let us know when you guys get the letter!

@snailshellz You said: “I don’t really know what to believe about the order they send out decisions in. It doesn’t seem to be relative to applicant “quality” or “priority” because plenty of less-competitive GPA/low credit folks hear back early.”

Must be their “holistic” review process.

Class registration for newly admitted students starts on 11/23-- this Monday. It is entirely possible for a newly admitted student who heard back this week to attend an orientation on Monday or the early part of next week, and then be able to register at the same time.

I talked with someone at UW today and she said that the admissions people at UW were going to try to let everyone know of acceptance before Thanksgiving. That’s still over a week away, but for those of you who haven’t received confirmation yet, don’t worry. I found out today that I was accepted, and I also found out that I won’t be able to get into the program I want to get into at the school. So I can’t go to UW after all =((

@Leibnizzzzz WHY!?!?!?!?!?!? That breaks my heart to hear :frowning:

Wow, why not Leibniz? Just on a technicality or something?

That’s so crazy! How could that be? :-S

Well my original goal was to get an undergraduate degree in both applied math and computer science, but the lady at UW said that since I haven’t yet taken any computer classes, it would be extremely difficult to get into either the applied and computational mathematical science department or the computer science department (since UW has a limit on how long you can spend there). So odds are if I went to UW, I would either have to major in something I don’t want to major in or switch schools before receiving a degree. I decided it was safest to go to another school where I can be sure I get the degrees I want. I never knew I’d be so bummed out after receiving the letter of acceptance haha

But in your case @snailshellz, i know you will be able to get into the math department for sure! Your GPA was just about the same as mine and we have taken basically the same classes and I was accepted so I’m pretty confident you will be as well!

Still bugs me to think about, but hopefully I get in for grad school and maybe I will see you guys then!

Hmm, yeah I think you need CS 142 & 143 before you apply for the ACMS major! https://admit.washington.edu/apw/ACMS-2015.pdf

Since you can only transfer in with 90 credits, that means that you’d be at 90 credits your first quarter. You have to declare a major at 110 credits. If you took CS 142 & 143 in Winter and Spring, respectively, and maybe just one or two other courses, then you could be at 110 credits by the end of Spring, have all your prereqs done, and apply for the major in Autumn?

That would be a lot of extra time though if you’re already accepted at another university. I think it would be doable, though.

I’m in! Applied for molecular biology… my unofficial transcript FINALLY loaded. Hope we all make it, I came here daily looking for your posts. :))

@snailshellz, I was tempted to do that. I still might, I really wanna go to UW!

I checked myUW and my transcript didn’t get loaded. Did anyone who applied for either and non competitive major or physics get accepted?

@BluMickey mine didn’t load either, as well as a few others’ on the thread. a lot of people had theirs load, though. Once they start accepting people, more people will hear back in the next couple of days. People in the admissions office have indicated that the bulk of decisions will be sent out in the next week or so.

I put math as my intended major, physics as a backup.

Honestly I can’t even look at myUW anymore. Lol. I’m just going to wait for my letter. :-S

@Leibnizzzzz Good luck with whatever you choose! It’s a tough call. UW is a great school for CS/ACMS, but personally if I couldn’t get into my desired major, then I would rather go to Western/WSU or some other university where I could study what I want.

One thing that has really been putting me off UW lately (other than the lack of acceptance letter lol) is the talk from students about how competitive the math programs are, how cheating is a real issue… I imagine if you went to WSU, it would be a lot more relaxed. You could focus less on the grades and more on your passion for math. There’s a lot of people who transferred out of UW because they couldn’t cut it in the CS program.

Do you guys think UW reviews applications that were submitted earlier first?
