Excuse me if this has been addressed or is simply an ignorant question, but does doing well on the PSAT your junior year help with admissions (particularly into UC schools). If so, how good does it look and will it make a significant impact on my college admissions? I was one of the 50,000 this year that qualified for the first round of the National Merit Scholarship. Assuming I don't get any further, how can this help me...?

Colleges look at your SAT scores, not PSAT. Therefore, you still need to take the SAT. However, if you do well in PSAT, most likely you will also do well in SAT. So PSAT performance is a good predictor of SAT performance. There is no direct impact of PSAT on your college applications.

yeah...i got 209 on my psat and 2020 on my sat1. i was hoping that being in such a high percentile (i think 96th) for my psat would do something for me, but i guess not. thanks for the response though.

i got a 57CR 60M=1170.... but got a 610CR 680M=1290... a diff of 120 pts... thats pretty significant....

You technically did not qualify for the first round of the National Merit Scholarship unless you were in the 16,000. As to PSAT results in admissions, any recognition from National Merit can only help, but its impact remains small.
