PSAT Difficulty?

Is the PSAT a lot easier than the SAT?

The SAT tests some Algebra II concepts while the PSAT doesn’t. Other than that, I don’t think the PSAT is intentionally easier than the SAT, though there are some differing opinions about this.

I know, that’s why I posted it /: It’s just that I took a SAT practice test and got a 2000. But when I took this, I got a 220 and there is no possible way in the last 2 days I could have jumped relatively 200 points o_O

It’s because the SAT is longer. Therefore, when you are taking the PSAT, you’re stamina is better which results in a higher score. And Dorkyelmo, I saw your post about trying to memorize 3500 words from Barron’s… Don’t. It’s a waste of time. You can put better things on your resume for college applications (e.g. better extra-curricular activities) than memorizing 3500 words for a good SAT score (remember, the SAT isn’t the only thing that matters). You should just memorize the Direct Hits Volume 1&2 and the 300 Essential Vocab Words. Along with that, just keep doing Blue Book practice tests and look up/memorize any word you don’t know. Please don’t waste your time memorizing 3500 words…

PSAT is shorter(Just one of many reasons why the PSAT/NMSQT is looked upon as garbage to many people), I got 3 or 4 wrong in writing I believe and got less than a 70. That on the SAT, that would be a 720+. Most people remain the same or see a 100 point jump just because the SAT is longer and has more questions that count against you less.

@ahan98: I really won’t spend much time reviewing words because of my PreAP class which makes me memorize 20 words per week. So I probably will skim through the list and memorize the words I see most often on the SAT

@drac313: So that’s why my grade jumped 20 points? Because it’s shorter and I have a better stamina? But, actually, I didn’t sit down and took the test the whole way thru. I took sections of it per day and did it. And the same goes for the SAT test. So, I don’t think stamina will affect my score as much? For me, after taking each test, I actually understand the answers, thus better choice making. Could that be it? SAT has harder answer choices?

-4 on psat for writing gave me a 660. But on my practice sat I took yesterday, -2 got me a 760.

For PSAT, a few silly mistakes can really mess up your score, while for the SAT they don’t hurt nearly as much.

Agreed. I have no idea how one mistake allowed a change of 4 POINTS?? OMG

I missed 2 on my PSAT and got a score of 720 for writing. And they were easy mistakes ugh.
Then I took a couple practice SAT tests and missed 1 in the first test and 3 in the second. I scored a 800 and 780 respectively. I was very lenient with my writing score by giving myself 9s on both of them.
