fireflyscout...I hope you're right!

I have a 214 and I'm hoping I get SMF in NY ... though I know i won't, because I"m like 6 points off from last years or something....bleh. Oh well, I still pwnt my SAT's (2260) so it won't matter, it was just to make me feel cool anyway

Last year, Ohio was 211 and dd is above that for 2009..school usually names SF in morning announcements upon notification but does not post pictures/names until day local paper has article listing all the local SFs by school on official date. We have known scores since last December, why does it take so long to figure out state percentiles and announce? I can understand making sure all are back in school to make it more timely but surely all are back by Labor Day, which is early this year so 9/12 seems a long way away!

Rule34 ~ What state are you in, where 213 is commended?

213 is commended no matter what state you are in. Commended is usually just above 200 every year. It is a nation wide cutoff, not a state specific one.

I really hope i get it... 218 nj. i think i'm just a few points away :(

khoitrinh: 213 is at least high enough to be commended. In some states it will qualify for NMSF in some states it will be too low. Any score 200 or above is at least commended. The 200 is a national cutoff. SF is a state cutoff.

The following thread from last December shows the change in cutoff scores for 2008 graduates, for most of the states (see post 1). The ones that changed went down; none went up. It will be interesting to see if there's less change this year, based on this being the second year with the new test format.

I'm pretty sure I'm commended with my 219 in MA (so frustrating b/c my SAT was 100 points higher)...so annoying, it would have been high enough almost anywhere else...

181818-only SF get notified with their packets to apply for finalist status at this time..so no packet=commended and everyone already knows they are one or the other...here, all the media hoopla is dedicated to the SF lists by school on the official release date and then individual schools will note the complete group of SF/commended later in September

Dd, who got 215 on PSAT just called home to tell me they announced her as a NMSF today...we are from OH....let the roll call begin!!! WOOHOOO!!!

How did she find out? Did her school release the information? Also, do you happen to know what the cut-off for Ohio is this year? Last year, it was 211.

School verbally announced internally to all students...they won't officially release names...local paper will have an article guessing on release date...and then her school will have a picture taken and post a news article on their website. Don't know the lowest number at her school...will see if she knows more when she gets home today.

215 is 4 points above Ohio's NMSF cut-off last year, so not surprising. Congrats, though!

School did not announce, just made an announcement for "the following students to report to the office after their first bell" and the student body figured out why based on who was called....they gave them their packets...dd thinks friend who did not get SF was 209. Dd attends all-girl catholic college prep school of 718 students who had 7 last year and 14 this year.

My "homeschool principal" aka my parents received the school packet today.

I qualified as a SF with a score of 219 (AZ).

My homeschooler qualified in CA with a 219.

Emailed the college counselor in Nashville today. She either does not have any info yet or is going to keep it quiet for now. D had a 224,(last year cutoff was 213 for SF) so she should make it. It would be nice for her to work on the packet this long weekend, oh well

NMS qualifier in Illinois 231

They said they got the information in the mail this week

Heart skips a beat -- my daughter got a 219 in California; we haven't heard anything, but it sounds as if, from Cardinal Fang's post, that she should be a semi-finalist....
