Cutoffs can't/HIGHLY UNLIKELY go up by 6 in one year right?

Congratulations Zetesis! My son definitely got 219, and I'm holding the notification in my lap right now. Your daughter is a semifinalist!

Can someone who has the packet already please post the essay prompt.
Thanks

ESSAY ABOUT YOURSELF In your own words, describe your personal characteristics, accomplishments, primary interests, plans and goals. What sets you apart? Your essay should be about 500 words.

Cardinal Fang -- Thanks so much!

Cutoff in TN is <= 215. My son scored a 216 and is a semifinalist.

Has anyone from MA gotten a notification yet? I have little hope because our cutoff is so high, but I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope...I would have qualified in like 47 states (last year), just not this one.:(

yes please someone from MA post..
is 224 enough?

Arizona < = 219
Calif < = 219
Ohio < = 215
Tenn < = 216

Texas < = 218

Did the qualifying scores go up?

The way I am reading these is that the cutoff are less than or equal to the number stated. We don't yet know where the cutoffs are or if they have gone up or down. Is that correct?

That would be correct.

Impossible to know at this point, gadsdenite, because all we know is that the displayed scores "made it." Possibly lower scores made it as well, but we don't know yet. That is why it is important to hear from people who made it with lower scores, too.

Or especially if someone finds out what the exact cut-off score is for their state. When we know that, we will just use the "equal sign," not the "equal to or lower-than sign."

I just figured out there's another Official Thread on National Merit Semifinalist Cutoffs being done by Fireflyscout, who did such a terrific job last year. Trying to figure out how to refer everyone over there is kind of giving me a headache, since I don't know how to embed a link, so here:

Go to SAT/ACT, but then you have to click up at the top for SAT Preparation, and you will see the thread

Everyone needs to go over there.

Skyhook, thanks for the information. You confirmed what I thought, but it could take weeks, I guess, to figure out the lowest qualifying scores.

I will move to the other post and see what I can learn...

Just FYI my friend qualified with a 215 in AZ (I had a 219)

anybody heard from PA?
i've been hearing different accounts..was the cutoff for the class of 2008 in PA 214 or 217??

The cutoff last year for PA was 214.

How to put a link to a College Confidential thread in a thread. Find a link to the thread you like, as for example on the index page of the forum where that thread is, RIGHT-click on that link, and in most browsers and versions of Windows you'll have a menu choice of "copy link" or something like that. Then just paste it in as a separate line in a reply post to the thread you are referring out from, like this:

(Of course, doing this on Macs must involve some other procedure, but maybe an experienced Mac user can explain that.)
