PSAT score to SAT

I got a 189 on my PSAT only skimming the given guide the night before. I have been studying for the SAT since November and I am going to take the test in late January. How might my PSAT score translate now that I've been preparing? I am aware that this will vary immensely from person to person but I'd just like some input.

Well, it depends on how much you studied and focused on the topics both separately and generally.

However your 189 PSAT is comparable to an 1890. You can’t directly predict these things but I guess you could get around high 1900’s, low 2000’s?

My daughter had the exact same SAT score as her PSAT score. I don’t recall if she studied more for one or the other, but her percentile never changed for all of her standardized tests from elementary school through high school. Your score will probably not vary much from your typical score and percentile. The people who truly ace these exams have been preparing for them since they were about four years old – i.e., for years, not a couple of months.

Hey, I also got a 189 on my PSAT and ended up getting 2060 on my first go at the SAT (also in January…). However, I worked my way up to 2260 on my third try. So, your PSAT score may end up not being an indicator at all - it’s all about how much work you’re willing to put into the SAT.

Funny thing for me was that I got a higher PSAT score (in comparison) than my SAT score, both times I took it. I got a 211 PSAT, but a 1950 and a 2030 SAT. Granted that the essay pulled the writing section down some, but really, it’s a matter of preparation. I actually prepared better for the PSAT than the SAT. (My math was never spectacular, but my second time at it didn’t help much because I took it in Nov., so the curve was merciless.) Just study hard and regularly. Best of luck!

It all depends. I got 218 PSAT and 2330 SAT.

231 PSAT last year, 227 this year…2340 SAT last year, 2360 this year 2400 superscore
go figure. I also know a kid whose SAT score was like 400 points higher than his PSAT score

I ended up getting a 2080.

That’s a pretty good score.

Psat: 200 then 222, 2320 sat one sitting. Studied my butt off in between soph and junior year and during junior year.

I went from 186 to 179 for the PSAT, while my first SAT was a 1940 and my last test with superscore is 2270.
