@Reno It has to do with population, I think. States like Alaska have volatile cutoffs because the smaller sample size amplifies any variations, but in, say, NJ or OH, you have a pretty good idea of where you stand. It’s only a general rule, and there’re bound to be some exceptions!

For me:
PSAT: 239 with one off on reading
BUT
my December scores were 2260!!!
i got 660 on CR because I was taking cold medecine that made me really woozy.
Do you guys know other people with the same situation?

^ yes. I was not feeling well the first time I took the SAT. 700 CR ><
took it a couple months later without doing anything at all to improve and scored 790. I still must have had something wrong with me because I literally missed the easiest passage-based question on there :/

Got my score yesterday after a long delay
80 CR
80 M
80 W
I can’t believe it!

227 (CA)…come on NMSF
CR 80
M 72
W 75

^ You definitely got semifinalist…there’s no way CA cutoff will jump 9 points.

239
CR 80
M 80
W 79
Spent 5 minutes trying to decide whether the writing question I got wrong was the one I put or the correct answer -__- Still happy though :)

230 (CA)
CR 77
M 73
W 80
Pretty happy! :)

I got a 240
That’s in the 99%+ percentile.

Did you guys get your scores in the mail? because I need a code access to see my scores, but I am dying to see my scores!

^Yes, we received our scores in the mail. Certain schools don’t give out the PSAT results until mid-January, but everyone should have them by then. After January 15th, you can view your scores online without a code by verifying your identity on the CollegeBoard website.

But…Ouch! I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long! Hopefully, you’ll get your scores soon.

I scored a 209 in West Virginia. Our state has the lowest cutoff tied with I think North Dakota and Wyoming.

2009- 202
2008- 203
2007- 203
2006- 200

Do you think that the cutoff can raise 6 or 7 points from one year to the next?

@vkm- Your score looks safe to me. It is not likely it would go up that much. Most only vary by a few points, BUT Nevada’s went up 6 points last year (from 202 to 208), so I was hoping they wouldn’t do that again. I do not understand why they make you wait so long…isn’t the data available to the college board? Hearing about all of these perfect and nearly perfect scores is unsettling and so is the wait.

Thanks Renomamma. I assume you are from Nevada, by your citing of Nevada’s dramatic increase and your username? I think that College Confidential has many enthusiastic members who are more likely to get the high scores. I hope that cutoffs don’t raise that much this year! I guess we’ll know for sure in September.

Hey guys, I still haven’t received my scores(my school sucks) and i was wondering when they come online without the access code

i think it is january 15

still havent gotten my score and i know it will be on collegeboard in january 15th…but does anyone know when brooklyn ny schools will get them back…i think no schools in broolyn ny or maybe even the whole city got them back yet

I talked to a PSAT person on the phone and he said that they’d email the access codes out this week? Is that wrong?

I scored 214 in Pennsylvania. That was good enough for the 99th percentile. Does my 99th percentile score guarantee semi-finalist standing?

No, not necessarily: the national percentiles do not determine semi-finalists, the state percentiles do. For the class of 2011, the cutoff in PA was 216.
