Thank you momto3kids. Waiting impatiently here…

We had a lot of out-of-town family visit for Thanksgiving. A relative asked my 2012 D about colleges and SATs. She answered that she took the PSAT, but the scores are not yet in. The relative followed up, “when do the scores come in?” I reflexively blurted out “December 10th.” Everyone in the room looked at me as if I had an obvious problem - including my D. Oops.

Oh don’t apologize for caring so much!

Oh wow 9 more days! Crap I think I did terrible on Writing.

^ same. Writing’s definitely going to be the reason that I don’t get national merit. My stupid proctor cut us off 5 minutes short and didn’t realize it until we were already handing in our tests, so everything was screwed up and i didn’t get to check my work :/

who thought the writing form W was really hard? I usually only miss one or two in writing but I know I missed at least 5 on that one! I think there will be a good curve though.

^ Me. I know for certain I missed 4, and probably a few more. Frustration haha

I actually felt really good about the writing on Form W, but the first math section took me a lot longer than I expected. I’m most nervous about that section.

College board has the curves up. Scroll down to page 4. http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/understanding-psat-nmsqt-scores.pdf

From the curves it seems like writing has a harsh curve and reading a gentler one?

when do scores come in?

December 10th . . .doh!

glido, we are all looking at you as if you have an obvious problem:)

According to the curve, if my S got the same number of questions right as last year, he would be very likely out of top 99%. His score was in top 99% for 2009.

Thanks for the link, Yankee Belle. The Wednesday curves actually don’t look too bad: CR is a bit harsh, Math is about normal and Writing is more generous than it’s been in years.

The person answering the phone at College Board told me yesterday that our school (Arizona) would receive the scores late this week or early next week.

the lowest scaled score to be in the 99 percentile is 214…so should the cutoff be around there?

Holaamiga, it depends upon what state you live in. And it’s different every year. For example, the cut-off in Oregon was 215 last year but 213 the year before. However, the cut-off for much more populous/urban states, like NJ, is much much higher – like 224. They don’t publish the cut-offs for each state until next fall. Here’s a link to a forum thread from Sept., where most of the state’s cut-offs were compiled (scroll to the end of the first page) by individual members. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/987836-national-merit-semifinalist-score-cutoff-class-2011-a.html

i understand that. go to http://professionals.collegeboard.co…sqt-scores.pdf. this is the report for this year. there is a selection index chart. 214 is the lowest scaled score to get a 99, but is that the average of every score?

Good lord I don’t even want my PSAT results back.
