Maybe I'm dreaming but the past 3 days I've gotten college mail after not getting any for several months. I took the PSAT in October and I have not taken any other standardized tests except for the PSAT last October and I got a lot of college mail around December-February after I took it. Is this proof that the PSAT scores have been released or is it just a coincidence?

I think the colleges probably have either the actual scores or a list of high performing students. I also think the colleges probably get the scores before the high schools.

Colleges definitely see your psat scores. If you read the mail it says "congratulations on your outstanding achievement on the PSAT" and crap like that.

Once you get Semifinalist status, the letters start pouring in from everywhere.

colleges don't see your scores, but they can elect to only receive information on kids who scored a certain amount of points, i.e. Yale can choose to only get the information of kids who scored at least 200 points

do you think doing poorly on PSATs is really bad? say i do only so so on PSATs but then get a 2250 on SATs. what will colleges think? i wasnt really prepared for PSATs :

the psats is basically just practice. the college you apply to very well wont know your psat scores.

ok good. i dont need a scholarship and i really didnt have time to study hard to get semifinalist or anything...maybe i will be i doubt it, especially since i was sick and that distracted me. i looked at it just as a practice for the SAT so im glad colleges dont see grade lol

^^^Well...with your 2250, pending other things, you could probably get a scholarship somewhere.

honestly, PSAT's are not important (unless u really need the scholarship $$) ... however, for many, they are a clear indication on wht u will get on the SAT (however, with determination, preparation, and perspiration - you can change a bad PSAT score into a great SAT score) ... just ask ppl on this board.. so many ppl have done it succsessfully

Yeah....BUT, you know what my amazing school decided to do?

They decided to put it on the official transcript....WHY??????

wow that sucks sr! but ya, i know that my PSAT score will be lower than my SAT score so as long as colleges dont find out about it i dont care :o

a warning to all juniors:
do not take the PSATs too seriously. 1) they don't matter at all, really, unless you get commended student or semi-finalist 2)you can ask your school to take it off the transcript, I'm pretty sure 3) they're horrible indicators. I have plenty of friends who got like.. 1810s on their PSATs and then got 2100s on their SATs, but I personally went down by 60 points (2130 to 2070...) so you could do a lot better or a lot worse, depending.

"PSAT/NMSQT scores are not intended for use by colleges as part of their admission criteria. Scores should not be included on student transcripts that will be reproduced and sent to colleges unless the student (age 18 or older) or parent has granted permission."

Yeah, they are pretty much pointless UNLESS you make Semifinalist or commended.

You do PSAT for da money only. I hope I made the National Achievement cutoff! I should really take advantage of being a negro. I'm just now doing it!
