PSAT Scores

would an 80th percentile (in comparison to juniors) be a good score for a sophomore taking the PSAT?

An 80th percentile is pretty good no matter what grade you're in.

If you don't get an answer here, you might want to post in "High School life." Most here are focused on the ssat and might not have taken the PSAT yet.

oo i took that. i did pretty bad but i got a 87% compared to juniors.
and i think thats fine. what were your percentages compared to sophmores and raw scores?

I meant competitive in terms of Exeter/Hotchkiss (specifically) admissions?

Compared to sophmores I got 96% Reading, 78% Math, 84% Writing

i got a 99 percentile but i only got 218 which translates to 2180 in the SATs

hotchkiss's average SAT last year was 2090 , which translates to a 209 on the PSAT, which I believe is 98 percentile, correct me if I was wrong... the actual score is more important than percentile, since almost the entire nation takes the PSAT...what's your actual score?

do you have any hooks? post stats

oo good job in reading. i think i got a 84 in that 87 writing and 96 in math
ummm, well im not sure. not many people take the psats to enter...but im sure it is fine. the total raw score counts more than the percentages. but competitive.. if your total raw score is above 200, then you're in the running.

if your raw score is above 209, I think you should be fine, if it is below, u better have something special, becoz that's the bottom half of the class, and u gotta be special for them to take you as junior or senior if you are at the bottom half which usually are legacies, super wealthies and athletes

Oh my gosh it's a 169. I'm screwed. Everything else in my apps are pretty good though. I think I've got a few hooks. My grades are currently 5 A's and 2 B's at another highly competitive boarding school in the TSAO and I do tons of EC's. It's a long story but yeah.

well test grades are not the most important. win them with the interview :)

That's what I'm aiming to do lol.

Do you think they'll take it into account that I took it as a sophomore and at the start of the year before the work ethic/lessons I've learnt in this boarding school so if I took it right now it would be much better?

well, i guess so.
but think about the kids that got in the high 200s.. they were under the same consequences
