PSAT vs. SAT

I did poorly on my PSAT this year (sophomore), and now I am really worried about getting into the colleges I want to. I had a 91 average UW freshman year, and so far this year I have a 93 UW average at a prestigious catholic high school, taking mostly honors courses.

My goal is to get over a 2000 on my SAT, and from the looks of the my PSAT score, I won't be heading to any place I want too.

Is the PSAT easier than the SAT? What's different about them and what can I do to raise my SAT score?

SAT is longer, has an essay, and is 2400 points total instead of 240.
I thought the PSAT might have been harder, but they’re both probably about the same. You should prep for the SAT and definitely take a lot of practice tests so you can get familiar with the types of questions they ask and things like that. Do practice essays too. Really, almost anyone can do well on the SAT if they practice enough.

SAT questions are actually easier than PSAT questions (at least for me)- the only hard thing about it is keeping your head in the game and not zoning out and getting tired of it cuz it’s longer. If you have good focusing ability and don’t mind longer tests, the SAT could def be easier for u.

Haha, I had an extremely crappy score (as a sophomore) as well. :O

lol for me they were actually pretty accurate:
1st PSAT (Sophomore year)
205 (don’t remember subscores lol)

1st SAT (October Junior Year 2 weeks b4 the PSAT XD)
2100 (710/700/690) <–they are so freakishly similar

2nd PSAT (Junior Year)
224 (77/77/70)

2nd SAT (January Junior Year)
2210 (800/740/670) (stupid writing… I just retook it, hopefully I get a new PR)

So they can be a decent rough gauge, but honestly a bad PSAT does not = a bad SAT
My friend got a 170 PSAT 2200 SAT so don’t be discouraged!
