PSU Admissions in the NYT

"“We have 47,971 applications as of now, compared to 45,760 at this time last year,” said Anne Rohrbach, executive director of undergraduate admissions at Pennsylvania State University. “We’ve been making offers since October, and we’ve already had 1,638 students say yes, compared to 1,096 at this time last year.”"

With acceptances coming in so much more quickly, I wonder if they might accept fewer, then go to a waitlist, to avoid the over-enrollment problems they had a couple years ago.

1moremom do you think there is any chance we'll hear before Christmas? How does the waitlist process go? My son applied to the Liberal arts school with a Crime Law and Justice major at UP. His w GPA was about a 90%. AP,Honors, and college courses.Good EC and work experience. His heart is set on Penn State UP. He didn't put down a second choice campus or summer session- do they offer that to you anyway if you don't get in to UP? Any advice would be appreciated. Once again good luck to all on the board who have been accepeted and hopefully the rest of us who are waiting will get acceptances soon. Happy Holidays

I would be surprised if more acceptances went out before New Year's; things get pretty quiet on campus over the holidays. Of course, with so many applications they may keep working full steam. I'm no expert, but I'd say your son has a good shot; I can't really help with the other questions. You might call or email admissions and ask, especially if you want to add summer session or a branch campus; at least then you'd know if they're working. ;)

I know how hard the waiting is. My older son's first choice school was one of the privates that doesn't send out letters until spring. It made the winter very long. Good luck!

Thanks 1moremom we'll try and be patient.

So as of now 1638 have been accepted and have responded by saying they are going to UP? what is the cut off limit for UP in the end?

8204 freshman at UP last year per their website
