Too late to apply?

I know that Penn State admissions are rolling, but is it too late to apply?

My friend now regrets not applying to better colleges, and his last shot for a good school is penn state. He just applied today.

His stats:

SAT: 1200
GPA: 91ish

Activities:

NHS
Volleyball

With those stats, it's very unlikely this late in the process. It gets more and more competitive the longer you wait. He would be a borderline applicant for University Park if he had applied at the beginning. He should still apply, though, as it is hard to predict how many people are being put on the waitlist. Best of luck

He probably has a good shot at any of the 19 other campuses to start his Penn State career, especially if he's in-state.

This is for an OOS student from NY.

OOS on In-State doesn't matter for Penn State.

doubt it, weak SAT's, especially for this late in the game.

Sillyworld, I don't buy that or the number of OOS students would be a lot higher.

Plainsman, it's just that more people from PA apply. Thus, it's only obvious to admit more in-state students.

Seriously doubt that he will get accepted because of how many kids applied this year before the priority deadline. I was rejected from main campus; applied summer session DUS; 92 GPA, honors and 2 APs, and a 1650/2400;OOS,legacy. Applied very early, but I don't think when you apply matters as long as it is BEFORE the priority deadline; August no better than November.
But I filed an appeal, and WON!!!! Admitted to UP Summer 2009. Yippee skippy!!!!!! Can't wait!I wonder if anybody will get in who filed after priority deadline except maybe kids who are geniuses. Has anyone heard of anybody getting accepted or rejected who applied after Nov30?

I applied on Feb 1st, and I was accepted to Fall ten days after.

I'm not a genius. My SAT was just 1770. ACT was 26.

Sillyworld, that's great, good for you! Did you have a really high GPA or did you have another 'hook' . I saw you are international, so maybe that helped. Are you going to go?

I don't know my GPA. I do IB, but my predicted isn't that good. My GCSEs were all right. I don't know if I had a hook since I did not submit any essays. Hmm, maybe from my recommendations and awards? My counselor sends recommendations to our universities even if they don't require them. But I don't really know. I was really surprised because I was about to do the personal statement until I found out I was accepted.

I'm not sure if I'm going to go. I'm still waiting on my other unis. But I'm falling in love with Penn State. :)

i think IB is a big helper. i’m in the program and i got in with a 3.3 1820 and applied in January.

Well that’s good news. I’m seriously getting tired of the program. At least it has its advantages. :D

I think the Out Of State Acceptance to Penn State UP is around 25%.The instate is almost double .

Yea…I really don’t think it matters when you apply. My application was not fully complete until late January I believe and I just found out I got in today…I’m OOS and do not consider myself, by any means, a genius. (ACT 26; 3.892 GPA; 14 AP classes)

There are quite a few kids from my school who also applied to Penn State and are still getting in. One applied before the priority deadline and another after the deadline.

daughter was accepted for summer session with a 1750 sat and 3.88 gpa… called admissions to see if she can go fall instead, the counselor told me they were looking for min 1800 sat and 3.80 fyi…i think they need to change their bubble chart
