does anyone know the minimum score required for the MCATs to get into jefferson medical college from the 6yr program? and can you choose between getting a BS or BA degree?

hmm...I believe it was 27 to get into Jefferson (although it is highly recommended you retest to get a 30 and up)

and I remember you get a BS but I forgot in what

ohh ok, thanks! because i think i'd rather get a BA than a BS. do you think i should go to another program or just apply for the psu one with all it's great opportunities despite the MCAT requirement?

If you're worried about the MCAT requirement, it's not really that bad. I remember taking the MCATs doing the regular premed route and doing really well despite only taking the summer off to study (I took an August MCAT)

I think the real problem is the BA degree. If there is something you definitely want to pursue, then you might want to consider going to another BA/MD program that will allow you to obtain the BA (e.g. Northwestern, Brown) or just doing regular pre-med (hey, you'll only be in college once right? Might as well enjoy it!)

If neither of those two are a big concern, then I guess the PSU program would be great too. (I know my cousin who went there is definitely enjoying it so far)

yeah, i'd much rather get a BA degree than a BS degree. but ultimately, i still want to get into med school lol. thanks, i'll reconsider my list of programs now!

was doing the traditional route really tough and required a lot of studying? i've been working hard to get into the combined programs, but if i don't get in, i'll being going thru regular pre-med and it makes me a little nervous hearing that most ppl drop out of it...

Hey guys...
i'm in the psu med program....six year student...almost done my first summer semester so hit up the aim if you have any questions...
i dunno where you all heard that psu's cutting it's program but chill...it's not....in fact my brother's a year younger than me and he's applying...there is one program that's being cut,...i think it might be temple (don't take my word for it though)
btw...psu rocks...this program rocks...if you're cool...i invite you to apply ;-)

haha.. fobida, what are the minimum GPA and MCAT requirements for PSU and hows the campus?

3.5 science and 3.5 overall...30...and I LOVE IT

30 on that mcat? Is that really tough? And how were your stats? And if you dont mind me asking, also, how are you paying for it? How much is the tuition for it?

hey i'm sorry...i'm retarded...it's 27 on the mcat, 9s on each section....i'm really sorry about that...

my stats: sat 1450...prolly the lowest

a good site to look at for general info about this program is:
http://www.science.psu.edu/premed/6yrpremedprogram.html
good luck you guys!!!

thanks for the info fobida....what year are u? and what do u think the minimum score is gonna be with the new sat?

hey fobida! do you know of anyone getting into PSU with a gpa of 3.8 unweighted? or if you have that kinda gpa.. then you're screwed and will never get it into any kind of program? =b sorry to be pessimistic..

hey fobida can you please list all your stats!!!!!!!!!!

Is this true?

hey, i also just completed my first summer (entering 1st year student) so i'll try to take a stab at questions. for admissions:
SAT- i don't know what their New SAT policy is, but i do know that every year the applicant pool becomes increasingly competative. our minimum SAT score requirement was 1440, but most accepted students have a 1500+ score. so i'd imagine that most applicants this upcoming year will have a 1500+(or its New SAT equivalent).
GPA- i'm sure admissions knows that GPA varies from school to school (even unweighted GPA). in response to tasha's question, a 3.8 unweighted GPA is impressive, assuming you took a lot of AP classes and attended a competative school. i think they also look at class rank (like top 5% of your class...).

in response to the other question- according to my knowledge, this program does not give preference to in-state kids. our class has kids from all around the nation.

one other thing i wanted to mention is that you can easily pursue your other academic interests at psu, so don't let the 6 year thing scare you. the general education requirements are easy to fulfill, especially since psu is very nice in accepting AP scores. a lot of kids are done with most of their gen. ed. requirements before even stepping on campus. so if you know you're a qaulified, ambitious, fun-loving, attractive female student (whoops, the last one slipped) that knows you want to become a doctor, i say go for this program.

i'm sorry i dont' check this thing too regularly...so im me at abidah2687 or email me at azh5005@psu.edu

my stats:
sat 1450....don't even ask about my sat2s cuz they don't matter...
umm wat else...
gpa was like 3.7 something...so to the chica with the 3.8 unweighted...whoo hoo!
my rank was 7 outta 238 or something... so yeah top 5% i think is one of the requirements...

okay now lastly....who's this getrichdietrying?!?!?!?!

he's your secret admirer

on behalf of my friend, i would like to call attention to any attractive gujarati females. i assure you this program will be quite a rewarding experience. On behalf of the rest of the guys, we'll take what we can get.

Credentials help mostly during the first phase of PSU Admissions. If they transfer your application to Jefferson, I believe most of the decision is based on your interview. As someone mentioned before, just practice talking with authoritative figures. Most of all, don't freak out over about the applications-enjoy your senior year.
