I'm an upcoming Psych major at UF. In highschool I took both pre-calc and Calc AB. I got A's in both classes but got a 1 on the AP Calc AB exam. My major requires that I take MAC 1147 or higher. I was wondering whether or not I should take MAC 1147 or MAC 2233(the non trig Calculus, I'm really weak in trig so I'd prefer this over MAC 2311), because I have heard that at UF MAC 1147 is a weed out class and is harder / has much more work than the Calculus courses. Any thoughts / suggestions?

My major concern is whether or not MAC 1147 is more difficult than MAC 2233.

MAC 1147 is Precalc Algebra + Trig. MAC 2233 is Survery of Calc 1 (called Business Calc 1 in other colleges). Since you’re a psych major, don’t bother with 2233. It’s just a large load of annoying, but not too difficult, optimization problems. You said you had an A in HS Precalc…then 1147 is for you, if you want the easy way out. It’s not as deceptive as Calculus at UF (keep in mind that Calc a weed out class).

One more question, if I’m a Psych major who is going to eventually apply for business grad school, although my major only requires precalc, would business school like to see that I’ve taken Calculus as well?
