My parents and I have been arguing a bit... they think psychology has a good reputation as a major and that getting a 4.0 with a psychology major will still be impressive for jobs/grad school... but I've been getting the sense that psychology is seen as a sorority girls major at Cal. Is that accurate? I get the sense that it doesn't matter how high my GPA is, my major just won't be taken seriously be employers (I'm a senior now, so it's been on my mind).

(then again, I transferred and I took my GE classes at a CC, which was easier. So I guess I'm taking about junior-senior year GPA only)

Psychology is kind of disrespected here… it’s known as one of the easier majors. However, there’s no shame in majoring it, if you get a good GPA there’s a lot of fields you can get involved in because it’s such a diverse major. You can even go pre-med from Psych if you want.

Somehow that school across the bay has beaten us to it, but our psych program is legit.
A lot of theories and studies that are mentioned in textbooks are developed from Berkeley psychology department. No matter what other Berkeley students think of the major, it does work. If it’s 4.0 at Berkeley, no matter what major you are, that means you’ve done work.

Looks like there is enough leeway in course selection in the psychology major that eight semester schedules can be constructed with considerable variation in difficulty.
