Hi!
I'm a sophomore at a Community College and I'm starting to begin the process of transferring. My plan for the future is to get a job in human resources. My question is that I do not know what to put down on my applications as a major. I'm currently a psychology major, and I've read many times that psychology is a good major to have for human resources, but then a lot of people tell me, I won't get a job. So I then looked into business administration. I do know that which ever one I choose, I will need to get internships, in order to even put my foot in the door, but for the time being Which major should I use? Once I get transferred can I major in one and minor in the other?
Help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

I have a BA in psychology and work as an HR manager…but I fell into the role out of dumb luck and good timing, and I never had HR internships or even courses. You could major in either one, but you’d want to take HR related courses to learn about employment laws and ethical practices. A course on HR technologies (applicant tracking systems, payroll programs, etc.) would be good as well.

Yes, you can major in one and minor in the other. That will help you to get internships if you have HR listed in some way as a focus on your resume. You can also look for basic HR assistant positions that are not necessarily internships for credit if you have time to work a part-time job. Or any office position just to get your foot in the door and develop those clerical skills to gain entry to HR assistant positions. HR is tough to break into, so keep your eyes open for any opportunities to gain relevant skills.

Ok, thank you so much for the advice! It is much appreciated!
