public/private schools with most school pride

i'm interested to know which public universities and private universities have the most school pride. this is subjective of course, but i just wanted to see the opinions out there, including how schools w/o D1 athletic programs (if any) compare with those who do have them.

please separate your lists and/or rankings by public schools and private schools please. thanks.

public - Texas a&m
private - USC

Public: UNC Chapel Hill

They bleed blue, and the sky is "Carolina blue."

Private: Duke

Watch the antics of the Cameron Crazies...they've got school spirit.

Dartmouth and Duke to me have the most positive, happy, proud student bodies.

Public: Texas A&M

Private: that's a hard one...I'll get back to you one that one

The women's colleges are usually extremely tight-knit.

public: well this is vague but I think all the big ten public schools apply here. I know here we have OSU and the pride for it is so large it's almost a state-wide thing

private: that's tough. but I think I agree with USC.

As Suze said....

Dartmouth and Duke. The two best schools in the country. I will add Stanford as well. GO CARDINALS!

Publics...

Texas A&M, UT, and UNC

most of the public state schools have pretty big school pride..especially division 1 sports

Women's colleges, is that a joke? Thet specialize in black clothing and communal depression!!

Really? Since when? None that I can think of are like that.

Yes, women's colleges. They typically have the strongest alum networks, highest donation rates, most long-term involvement with their colleges, and are otherwise extremely committed to their schools. There's a lot more to "school pride" than waving foam fingers at football games.

i think public: Michigan
Private: Stanford, Harvard, MIT

pretty much schools that are good, or known for athletics, i think school pride is overrated. It is nothing but giving in to peer pressure to seek a sense of belonging. Real School pride should come academics alone. having a great football program for a student to watch has nothing to do with the student or his/her future success.

Devil May Cry: Cardinal, not Cardinals.

You can't make it plural? Bah, whatever...I said my piece.

A plural color would sound silly. :)

public: Texas A&M, Michigan

private: USC, Notre Dame, Duke, Harvard, Stanford

Beginning, that may have been true before women could go to ivies and top LACs. Find me a women's college on the top list of giving today. Let's be honest, they are fine places if they are the best you can do. You will still face a high percentage of lesbians compared to the population and most no mainstream candidate who had it as a top choice. The more I looked at these schools, the less I could see applying unless I really couldn't get into another decent school.

I disagree. I don't think they have nearly as much school pride, but I do think they equal some elite colleges.

UCLA, UCB, Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, UNC, Uva, TAMU, Florida.

the basics- Notre Dame, Fla, Va Tech, Fl St, UCLA, USC, MSU, Mich, Duke, UNC-CH, NCSU, Wake Forest, Stanford, Dartmouth, UPenn, Wisconsin, Texas

idk about public but from what I've heard students at Dartmouth are super-committed to and proud of their school
