Normal for Purdue. Your student would’ve been considered for 2nd choice now if denied first choice. Deferred means definitely still in play at Purdue—they aren’t known for such “soft denials” like some schools. Communicate with admissions about preferences if anything has changed. There are definitely majors that you essentially cannot transfer into as a Purdue student (CS and pro flight are biggies) but once in there are ways to navigate majors. Good luck!
My D got acceptance for Engineering. But there is no mention about whether she got selected for Honors College. Should we expect a more specific messaging on that or should we assume she didnt get in ?
Assume Purdue is engaging in yield protection with those numbers. Your student should communicate ongoing interest to help Purdue decide on the 2nd choice major. School counselor can also pipe up to vouch for commitment to/interest in Purdue. They don’t want to be your safety school. Sometimes they pass on the wrong student, though. Lots of kids will decide to move on. That’s ok too.
It appears that honors acceptances went out with decisions this cycle. Typically colleges do not send out anything further.
Yes, Honors was in the second paragraph of the acceptance letter.
My son just decided to transition to Chem E too. He originally had planned on ME. Hoping he can find coops!
just wondering if it had to do with her honors essays or some other part
Make sure your student signs up for co-op fair. Sign ups start Jan 17th. Fair is at the end of the month. Sun Chemical and I think Vantage are 2 companies that take younger students for co-op. The guy who runs Sun’s program is a Purdue engineer and former co-op student.
We feel your pain. Son OOS 1570 SAT, 4.2/4.4, many APs (4/5), great leadership experience in Civil Air Patrol, started his own very successful business, currently enrolled in local community college for extra math classes. Brother is currently enrolled in Purdue Engineering. Deferred from College of Engineering.
Thank you. I will tell him.
My son not accepted but offered alternative campus. Fort Wayne / northwest . Not sure what it means?
International and have no idea if attending different campus has same value as main campus
Can any one help?
Same here. OOS. 1590 SAT, 36 ACT, 4.0 unweighted, multiple APs, college classes, honors and ECs, year-round high-level athlete, volunteer tutor. Visited campus. Would have been thrilled to be admitted. Deferred for FYE. And really disappointed.
I just PM’d you.
looked at the list. P&G, Lubrizol, Kimberly-Clark and Air Products like younger ChemE students too. Good luck to your Boiler
Ft Wayne and Northwest are not considered to be at the same academic level as West Lafayette although the diplomas all say Purdue. They are a pathway to West Lafayette as a future transfer student but transferring into engineering and CS is difficult because of capacity constraints. As an international student you will find a much smaller international community at those regional schools so fit becomes a bigger issue as well. If other flagships are available to you and the cost is doable for them I’d pass on the regional campuses myself.
My son was admitted to Biochemistry. He’s OOS, 4.0 both weighted and unweighted, 35 ACT (superscored). I think he has 5 APs (4s and 5s so far). Strong ECs and I hope strong rec letters. Not sure about merit scholarships. I asked him to check. He won’t go if he’s not awarded money. Can’t afford. Congrats to all that have been accepted.
I agree with what someone mentioned above. These high stats kids may have been viewed as using Purdue as a safety. My older child currently a junior in college was valedictorian, 1580 SAT… and was waitlisted at some schools that she should have easily got into. Hopefully if your student reaches out to admissions that will help. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for guidances
Disappointed here too, deferred FYE.
OOS, 4.0 UW, #2 in class of 450
1450 SAT but 780 math,
a dozen AP courses (4-5’s on tests), college Engineering Calculus and DiffEq beyond AP
Strong EC’s including music, varsity athletics, and state champion Science Olympiad
I’m sorry. With those credentials your child should have clearly been admitted.
