Purdue Early Action for Fall 2023 Admission

Something I’ve noticed now with 3 kids thru this process is that the published numbers are typically 2+ years out of date, which given the last few years, means numbers can dramatically change. It’s really hard to predict moving targets.

Coming from a large and very competitive school, I’m always amazed at the depth of talent in the applicant pool. The competition in engineering and CS is incredibly fierce, and at least our school has so many very high stat, incredibly qualified, nationally recognized students, all applying for the same schools. Sometimes in the same majors. It is tough out there. Purdue liked your son’s record and essays. It is that simple. As a top engineering school, and a public one, they really don’t need to yield protect, so your son should be proud!

DS got accepted to FYE (Mech Engineering), honors college, $10k Presidential scholarship
OOS (Calif), 3.9 UW (4.6 WGPA), 35 ACT (36 Superscore), 12 APs, NMSF
Robotics, volunteer, stock/finance, esports

Some of his school friends (similar stats) got in, some with merit scholarship, some without merit, and some are deferred. Total crap shoot for sure.

Good luck to all.

My S22 was deferred from EA and was admitted into CS mid-late March. That was an unexpected dynamic because Purdue deferred a lot more than normal and filled a smaller % of the class in EA last year. No idea if it will pan out the same way this year but I also recall my son was one of the rare deferrals who reported an admit in March. So, who knows - there is always a chance albeit a small chance.

Interesting stats from Purdue School of Engineering, class of 2026:
30% Indiana residents enrolled (of 2,459 total)
20,917 total engineering applicants (largest in college history)

accepted FYE intl but no merit T^T; is merit aid from the sophomore year available and generous? even though tuition for purdue is much lower than other public unis it’s still around 46-48k for intl students :frowning:

Super interesting that so many are out of state. But I bet a new record of applicants has been broken!

Your son did something more after deferred . Or just wait?

I have the same feeling also (about record-breaking trend) but Purdue is such a great school, so it is not a surprise to me.

Curious to know… for those who were rejected, were you offered a spot at one of their other campuses instead?

That’s meaningless. They are ranked way lower than many state schools.

There is some departmental aid available but it’s very competitive and isn’t big dollars.

Yes

What do you mean by “deleted”?

Some of these rejections and deferrals are nuts!

Last year My son was denied at Purdue and offered Ft Wayne. However, there’s not a pathway to Purdue engineering like at Texas A&M for Blinn, Galveston and McAllen which are considered part of main campus. But A&M has 65k students.

Do any other colleges offer engineering pathways if not accepted by main campus?
