Purdue Early Action for Fall 2023 Admission

Completely understand. Those Purdue honors essays were the last essays he wrote and he was totally out of gas at the end. We are in-state for Georgia Tech but that’s always a crapshoot and Purdue was high on his list as an alternate. He ended up with two strong honors essays but it took a lot of effort. With sports, applications and five AP classes this year I certainly understand his exhaustion. It was the only honors college he specifically applied to (was auto admitted to UGA honors). If he gets into any other ones, it’s going to be because they have an auto selection process

My S23 also didn’t have high stats, but got into the highly competitive Integrated Business and Engg (IBE) major at Krannert. I believe the Why Purdue and Why IBE major essays really carried the day for him. We did do an in-person visit to Purdue last year and communicated regularly with Krannert Admissions. That may also have helped us, although demonstrated interest is not a big factor in admissions.

Got into CS and the Honors College!

OOS son admitted FYE! Essay burn out so did not apply to honors. In hindsight, maybe he should have. I wonder how many Honors students they accept for FYE.

I don’t know first hand about the program but any course that is required for a students’ major, they will get into, when they are supposed to ; ) My D’s departmental admin told her they can override any schedule if a required class is showing as closed out in the scheduler.

The question about getting into CS courses as electives is a good one and I would encourage your student to get in touch with the department and ask. I would also ask the recruiting/internship/co-op question too since it’s a new major. My bet though is that Purdue created this major because of employer demand.

FWIW, it sounds like a really cool 4 year plan of study! Program: Artificial Intelligence, BS - Purdue University - Acalog ACMS™

My recollection is that about half of Purdue students are from out of state (including international students). In Texas our land grant schools enroll 90% plus in state students. It seems that the average tuition Purdue collects per student is pretty healthy, even with the frozen rates, given how many are paying the OOS rate. And given how desirable a Purdue degree is, they’ll continue to attract those OOS students.

Is anyone having trouble signing up for the admitted student day? There’s a link for our preferred date but we keep getting an error message when we submit.

Anyone else seeing this message when they try to register for a Purdue’s for Me event?

Error Message
To register for Purdue’s for Me, you must select the Purdue college to which you are admitted. If your college is not listed on the Purdue’s for Me date you selected, that means your college session has reached capacity for that date. Please return to the Purdue’s for Me webpage to start again.

I am not able to register my daughter for the Purdue is for Me tour. It keeps telling me there is an error and I need to pick the college she is in - but I have done that. Is anyone else struggling?

YES! I don’t know what is going on??? So frustrating!

Yep, same error here

Same here. I emailed Admissions with screenshots - but they won’t see it until Tuesday with the holiday weekend. I am not sure what else to do… I don’t really want to be by my computer all weekend trying to register. Ugh.

same. Just keep getting the same error message. They must have a bug in the signup process that probably won’t be fixed until Tuesday.

Yep, same. I think the admitted student info hasn’t transferred into the system for signing up for the visits.

I am the mom of a Purdue freshman in CS and the honors college. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

My advice to parents is book your Purdue For Me Day as soon as you can. The seats book up and Purdue really rolls out the red carpet for the students. Then, book your hotel room for drop off. I have ours booked for August and I had to go through four hotels to find one with an available room. If your student is going to attend Boiler Gold Rush Orientation, it won’t be that crazy, but eventually anything within 15 minutes will fill.

For those more experienced, how different is the “Purdue’s for Me” tour than the prospective student tour? Over the summer, we did a daily tour but added a tour of the Ag College. In addition, we got a specific tour of the Plant Science areas, met two advisors and two students, got to walk the greenhouses, etc. It was amazing and more than we ever expected. But since it was summer, we didn’t get to see any dorms, dining halls (other than the Student Union), or the Honors College (to which she was admitted).

We’re OOS (Texas) and there are no dates during our Spring Break, so this will require travel, time off work/school, etc. We’re all very excited for her acceptance and Purdue is her top choice so it’s important to all of us. I just want to be sure there will be enough added value to make the trip.

Also - looks like you can only bring 2 guests. Her younger brother (15) would be with us, so there would actually be 3 guests. In anyone’s experience, will this be a problem? I’ll ask when they reopen after the holiday. Just curious about anyone’s anecdotal experience.

That is frustrating to hear.

GroundworkMom, do you know what day drop off will be in August? Thanks for the tips!

Very surprising. I told my son that sometimes the schools make the decision for you if you’re not accepted.
