Purdue University 2015 Transfer Thread

I got Denied/Academic Expectations as my TOEFL score is 87 and the minimum requirement is 88 for College of Science.I gave TOEFL again on 28th March and will apply for reconsideration

Congrats @Magichour1814 I am happy for you

@ashumalik Thanks!! I am sure you will hear the good news very soon

@boilerup4purdue‌ I noticed you were admitted to both umich and Purdue, I am kind of in the same situation as you. Did you make a decision on where you will attend?

@transfer96 I’m not sure yet, however I’m in Purdue’s college of Pharmacy whereas at Michigan I would be studying Bio chemistry. I love both schools and my decision is very torn at the moment, however I’m leaning towards Purdue. What about you?

I just got into UIUC too. I’m a computer engineering major so it’s pretty hard to pick one school. I’m an international student too so I will be paying OOS tution and Purdue is the cheapest cost wise. I’ll probably have to check which university would accept most of my courses as a direct transfer before making a decision! Did umich email your transfer equivalency?

@transfer96 yes Umich and Purdue both emailed me my transfer equivalency with all of my credits being accepted and 40 being direct equivalents at michigan and 45 at Purdue. The ones that are not counted as direct equivalents can still fulfill requirements of interdepartmental courses so I really lose no time, both schools worked out for me. I’m just gonna wait and see for UNC then make my decision shortly.

@boilerup4purdue ,i am going to RIT(with scholarship) this fall and I have given 2 AP’s which equal to 13 credits at michigan.I got rejected from michigan due to bad high school scores.i want to transfer to michigan next summer. How will I know that what courses should I take that they transfer to michigan without me repeating a semester ?

@krazzywolf7 this question is a bit difficult to answer as I am unsure of what you are studying. However, as a rule of thumb you should know that almost all general science courses (chem, bio, physics, then organic) will transfer, as well as every ,math course from calc one all the way to differential equations. Now that you have a firm foundation of these courses that are direct equivalents, if you ensure that you get and maintain the proper grades you will gain your admittance. Also visit Michigan’s website for transfer students and they will have an in depth guideline on how to 100% ensure your courses will transfer. Just so you get an accepted students view point, as a chemistry major, 45 of my 70 credits were direct equivalents to Michigan while the remaining credits count towards the required interdepartmental credits. I lost no time from Community College as I will be a junior. If you have more questions feel free to ask me, I’ll try my best to answer you. Hope I helped! Good Luck!

My application was completed on February 18, 2015 and my application is still in committee review after a few weeks. Does anybody know when i can expect a decision to be made?

@boilerup4purdue wow that’s great! Umich emailed me one and only 30 of my 46 credits I have completed transfer, the rest are departmental! Does that mean they are just free elective credit? Purdue takes all my credit although some are undistributed( they end with xxx ) do you know exactly what undistributed credit is?
I’m leaning towards Purdue too cause it’s highly unlikely I will finish in two years!

@transfer96 my understanding of University of Michigan’s interdepartmental credit is that no matter which degree you decide to pursue, your general education requirements require you to take courses within different departments at UMich. The transfer courses that you have taken that are not direct equivalents will count as that.I just got into UNC so now my decision is between Purdue and North Carolina. UNC takes all my credits as does Purdue and both give mean opportunity to transfer into the pharmacy school Pharm D program. I’ll save umich for grad school

@boilerup4purdue ,is it necessary that there should be a vacancy in my course in uMichigan to transfer?

@krazzywolf7 I am not sure of what that means? haha I’m sorry

@boilerup4purdue ,for instance if I am applying for mechanical engineering,is it necessary that there should be a vacant space in mechanical engineering at the university or there is a fixed number students that they want to take in a particular course?

@boilerup4purdue ,purdue is offering me its regional campuses is it easy to transfer from there to the main campus?

@krazzywolf7 from my understanding it is for sure easier to gain admittance into the main campus from a regional or satellite school. Now for engineering the competitiveness will always and forever be very high at Purdue, so you must ensure you find a way to stick out among your peers. I believe that so long as there is available room in the engineering programs, a chance at admittance is within reach. As engineering is very rigorous at Purdue the freshmen and sophomore retention rate is not optimal, so you have a chance always. work hard

So I have ended up deciding to attend Purdue University’s college of Pharmacy instead of UNC Chapel Hill and the University of Michigan. The decision was tough but West Lafayette is the place where I want to be, and the place to mold my education in pursuit of Med or grad school. Good luck to all of you on your impending decisions. Best wishes!

@boilerup4purdue congrats! I’ll most likely see you there! Any advice on housing options?

@transfer96 I just put in my application for housing and you get a list of your top 7 choices. I just selected the newest buildings in hopes of getting the best possible dorm/ suite. Let me know what you decide.
