Putting Anticipated Grades for Transfer? California

Okay, first off, I'm not trying to be deceptive here, or devious, or cheat. I'm just in a tough position and I'd like actual opinions.

So I'm a first year community college student, and I'm trying to transfer to a CSU (or UC) in one year. However, I didn't take any classes over the summer or in high school, so my fall grades are my first grades and consequently, I won't have a GPA to put down for my CSU application because the application filing period ends at the end of November, and the fall term doesn't end until a week and a half later.

I know there is no problem with not having a GPa for UCs: you simply update it in January. However, when I emailed the admissions office at the CSU I'm looking at, the response said that since I wouldn't have a GPA on application, I would not be competitive at all during the selection process.

This is a shame, because right now I have a 4.0 in 18 units, I've already completed 30 units through AP classes, and I would be almost overqualified for the particular school by the end of the Spring semester before transfer. (Met all the prereqs, work experience, etc.)

Hypothetically, if, at the end of November, I were 98% sure what my final grades would be, would it be okay to put these anticipated grades down so I can at least be competitive in the process? Obviously I wouldn't lie if I weren't sure of what the grade would be, and if it turns out I'm incorrect I would tell the admissions office. So I don't want to use it to cheat.

But if I put down the grades I anticipate getting for fall quarter, then, by the time they look at the application in February or so, the grades would be correct and my GPA would match up with what I put on my application.

What are the thoughts on this? Again, don't rip me apart. I'm not trying to cheat or lie my way into college, I'm asking a genuine question.

You could try that but I wouldn’t recommend it. Could be disastrous if they think its lying (not really sure how CSU admissions work). Maybe you should try calling someone else at the CSU admissions office, cause you never know. That guy might not have the right info…or he might. In any case, if CSU’s don’t want you, that’s their loss LOL. You are obviously overqualified and probably going to some UC next year. I’m sorry if you really wanted to go to that one CSU though =/

I would’t do it. The schools will know that grades simply do not show up in November!

The schools will very likely simply wait til the grades are reported in January to make their decisions, so I wouldn’t worry about it–just get good grades.

Don’t lie! There’s always the chance that something could happen with the final, somebody messes up a group project, etc.

I heard CSU will automatically reject you if you do not have “Speech” course completed.

Also, they know the college you go to + the semester they use. So, if they see that you submitted the Fall 2011 grade before your semester is over then they know what you’ve done.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. So if I don’t report anticipated grades, I was looking at other ideas.

The school I’m looking at (Cal Poly) says you can submit changes to your application up until mid-january. Could I ask them to change my “in progress” classes to the grades I got?

Or I could simply apply regularly then appeal the decision with the updated grades.

Bumpp. Please help!
