Questbridge - 2007-2008

brittnayy16x, I'm under the impression that nobody from CC won the summer program scholarship.

:o I think one person said he/she was a Semi-Finalist for the Summer Program.

yeah, that was me. didnt get it though..

Sorry to hear that buddy. :(

no problem. im kinda happy i get to enjoy my summer with any friends who are leaving once i get back from boys state.

I've said this before somewhere else but...

I'm a first generation minority but I still didn't get anything from Questbridge, so don't jump to conclusions that people like me automatically get the scholarship. I think the problem was that my income was way too high (96k) even though I explained to them that it was only temporary. LOL oh well, I'm still going to SSP. Congrats to everyone who got it though!

spiffystars, I'm fairly certain that one of the first eliminating criteria is financial eligibility. 96k is still compared to the national average (nevermind regional inflation, etc.) It's probably almost twice the national average family income.

After financial eligibility however, I think minority and first-generation status are HUGE tips in the process. In fact, I think it will help you out more in the College Match program [regardless of whether this is fair or not]. I think it mattered less in this round because they weren't choosing students that would eventually go to specific colleges.

Have fun at SSP. I've decided I'd rather take a college class at Northwestern instead. Closer to home, less stress, and a lot more individual time to study for my SAT/ACT.

spiffystars, how much did SSP give you? if you don't mind sharing?

murkywater, are you doing it through a program or just by yourself?

westcoastlove, I'm taking a college class at Northwestern through a program at my school called "College Bridge". We get to take 1 class for free at a pre-selected list of Illinois-colleges [U of C, Northwestern & UIUC were some of the ones listed].

I'm probably going to take a Gender Studies class to enhance my passion in women's studies and rights. I'm going to list it as a major, anyways :D

Congrats to the finalists. I didn't get the scholarship :( I'm so sad ,I really wanted it.
Did anyone from CC get the sat prep course or laptop ?

Prep Course and computer not offered this year. Just counseling (which only 50 kids got), the prep summer scholarship (10 kids), and the conference (consolation prize).

I wish they had the same stuff as last year. Could've used a new computer... and the prep course'd be nice too.

Did everyone get notified if they didn't get anything?

Because I haven't been notified of anything yet.

Optimization: I got notified that I didn't get anything

Oh. :[ That makes me feel anxious. I e-mailed them.

hmm.
the conference is a consolation prize?
so questbridge only provide 10 summer programs and 50 counseling?
wow.
that sucks

I'm a finalist for the summer program. I'll see how it goes... Results aren't up yet.

For those that didn't get accepted:
You have an entire summer to make something out of yourself. Start up your own business. Get an internship. Work two jobs and study at a college. These all show determination, something that's probably worth more than going to a summer program if you really think about it. If I don't get accepted, that's okay; If this doesn't work out, I've got other plans. (Not stating that I don't want it; this obviously means a lot to me since well, I applied and put in my hard hours into that application)

Good luck to those who got something and good luck to those who'll be doing something else in the summer that's equally challenging, awesome, and maybe even better.

Um who says we aren't already doing most of that stuff. Most here (at least I am) are just trying to understand why a program for poor students would think an award to go to a college fair/seminar without travel expenses is a scholarship : P

Still wondering what is the benefit for doing the college match program since it's basically announcing to need blind colleges your financial situation. Because of that I probably won't be listing this award on my college applications.

Yeah.
What is up with the conference?
I got "invited" to the one in Pomona.
They should have at least made it a week event where we could have slept over. meh.
i would've preferred the SAT prep they gave last year or the laptops.
well...im going.
see what its all about.
anyone else going to pomona june 16?

I got invited to the Pomona one but it's way too far for a one-day conference, in my opinion. Plus, I don't think it'll be informative enough to merit going...

I didn't get it. I did however get accepted into the 1day Stanford thing. :) :) More stuff to do in the summer
