I just got an email and the conference thing too...mine is at Yale. I guess we will find out more next week but I'm excited! No summer program but I'm hoping that either TASP or Barnard (with a large scholarship) works out for me.

Ugh! Rice Univeristy. lol. Well at least I got it! Im jelaous of all you Ivy League kids! :(

i got this:

Congratulations on your outstanding application for the College Prep Scholarship. We received many applications for a limited number of awards, and your qualifications distinguished you as high-achieving.

As a result, we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend our QuestBridge College Preparatory Conference at Yale University on June 30, 2007. The conference will provide you with information about college application strategies, application essay writing, and financial aid. This full day event is a great opportunity to meet other College Prep Scholarship recipients, attend workshops and presentations, and visit with college representatives at our college fair. We are extending this invitation to help make you a strong applicant to a selective college.

Next week, we will send you login information to access forums on our website where you can converse with other College Prep Scholarship award recipients about topics such as choosing colleges, college admissions, and financial aid. Please watch your inbox for this and other emails containing details about your award.

In addition, we would like to remind you that the information in your College Prep Scholarship application can automatically transfer into a QuestBridge College Match application, giving you a head start on our fall program. The College Match program pairs high-achieving low-income seniors with admission and full scholarships to top-ranked colleges across the nation. The College Match application will be available in August.

On behalf of all of the QuestBridge staff, we would like to congratulate you once again on your College Prep Scholarship award. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you as you explore your educational options.

Our warmest congratulations,

The QuestBridge Team

Is the conference really worth attending? i live around Blacksburg, VA so its a pretty long trip to Conn.

I would be (and probably should be) perfectly happy with the conference except that I dont really have any other summer programs I'm planning on attending because many of them are so expensive. How important are they? Do the big ones give pretty decen financial aid?

Why'd you get exceptional? I got high acheiving! :( LOL. Not fair!

hey you guys, kai and vaguy89, I got similar a similar email. I think they picked you for the conference thing depending which one you live closer too. Because I got Pomona, which is the clost Questbridge particpating school for me.

I am really really confused about this. Becuase in the letter they call it a "colelge prep scholarship," but we didn't really get the scholarship for summer programs right??? or the laptop????

I wanta ask them, should I, or will that be toooo pushy

I think we're finalists. I got Texas.. and I live in Florida.. I guess that's close. lol. I am pretty sure we aren't finalists for the SUmmer programs westcoastlove, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. And I am sure that wouldn't be deemed as too "pushy."

I just want to say congrats to all those who received the scholarship. I know we all worked hard and put a lot of effort into our applications. TO those of you who didn't, I am sorry. :(

Do you think they are expecting us to pay for travel expenses to get to these conferences? Oh and I got the same exact form letter as VAguy. I don't understand what we were awarded either - a college fair??? Aren't those usually free.

ya, I was just kinda of confused becuase they called it a "scholarship" and the conference is REALLY a scholarship, although it is nice too.

I hope not. :o lol.

wait.
is the conference free? as in all expenses paid?
also.
i have been noticing that.
some people got the "your status is exceptional"
and some got "high achieving"
does this mean something?
also about the laptops.
do we get anything?
surely the conference has to be free right?

I just want to say congrats to all those who received the scholarship. I know we all worked hard and put a lot of effort into our applications. TO those of you who didn't, I am sorry
^ did anyone not get it?
I'm beginning to think that everyone got at least something?
so if we get the "conference" we won't get the laptop and vice versa?

where are you from and where is your conference?

Rosh420, you probably got put into Rice becuase Questbridge doesn't have any partner colleges in FL

We have also selected you to be a candidate for individualized telementoring from Amherst College, one of the nation's leading colleges
^ what is this telementoring stuff from amherst?
did anyone get this?
i also got that from questbridge in the email

I think the exceptional must mean that one of their partner schools have noticed you ??? didn't you say you got the telemonitoring from Amherst?
I think the conference is free however I'm not sure about the travel - would they fly you up and back for the day? That seems more than what a laptop would cost.

westcoastlove
I'm from Orange County, California
and my conference is at Stanford on may 19
are the traveling expenses paid for?
i mean it's only a 1 day conference. we show up, get some info, then leave couple hours later?

lol up and back for the day?
it seems so unrealistic.
=/

Yea but Im in GA and I got the conference in CT. That's definitely too far for a day conference so I'm hoping there is a plane ticket with the award.
