Questbridge - 2007-2008

haha I am from SoCal toooo!! awwww, I wish I got into the Stanford conference :(

I would email them or wait until monday to see if they have more information.

Yea doesnt it sound like this is like the consolation prize /: Oh well at least I can say I was a QB college prep finalist. Hey KAI did you choose Amherst as your first choice?
I think the follow up email will give us more info and I guess we are going to have access to a board too to post questions

HEYYYY I figured out how you got matched to the conference!!!

I looked back on my application ( I printed it out) On the last page, it asks you to select conferences (pomona, rice, stanford, and yale) Did you guys all get the one your picked????

I just picked pomona becuase it is close :</p>

ya grtskt89, I think the conference is just to give you SOMETHING rather than to just tell you that you are rejected

I declined all the conferences (didn't check any of them) but I picked Yale as my number #1 school of interest. I knew the conferences were too far to travel for a one day thing. Oh well if the travel isn't paid for then I won't be attending.

Congrats to all! Sadly, I wasn't even deemed worthy for a conference lol. Thank GOD for Lead because at first I was just going to apply to Questbridge. Hopefully I get my test scores up so I can become a college match finalist.

Didn't get anything :) I'm quite sure that my heart stopped when I actually saw a mail from them, but bah.

Thank you for applying for the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship. This year, we received an overwhelming number of highly qualified applications for a limited number of awards. Unfortunately, we were not able to grant you a College Prep Scholarship award at this time. However, we have placed your name on our waitlist to attend one of our QuestBridge College Preparatory Conferences. If there is an opening, we will contact you with an invitation to attend.

Ah well, haha. Preparing me for the college waitlists I guess.

Omg! So we got rejected?! LMAO! :o lol. Well I chose all of them. lol. How do you view your application? I can't view mine. :(

wait.
no i didnt pick amherst
i actually picked columbia
but okay.
this makes no sense
what exactly is a COllege prep scholarship?
the summer program thats paid for?
the laptops?
the SATS prep?
then what is this conference thing?
lol

ya same here, I think my SAT scores brought me down and my GPA is not too high either.

Rosh420 did you hear back from Notre Dame?? did you say they emailed you?

Aww. I am so sorry bejmco. :(

so wait.
they rejected people from the conferences.
which means, it HAS to be free?
haha otherwise who would attend a confernce when we have to pay traveling expenses?
=/
it seems more like a high school college fair thing
=/

hey westcoast. I got rejected, but I really didn't apply. I was on Spring Break when I got notifiication, so I couldn't get my stuff in on time. Oh well. I am confused. Did I get rejected or what? lol. I got the same letters everyone got, except mine is for Rice University.

westcoast.
you're from socal?
what part?
im from irvine

My letter's first paragraph was a little different than some of the ones posted:

"Congratulations on your outstanding application for the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship. We received many applications for a limited number of awards, and your qualifications distinguished you as exceptional."

I had 'exceptional' instead of high-achieving. And I got individualized counseling, which may have been caused by my qualifications being "exceptional" rather than "high-achieving". I really don't think that the conferences are consolation prizes -- you get to list "QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship Winner" on your resume!

In any case, I'm pretty excited about the counseling. I heard back from two scholarships today and received good news from both. I'm pretty happy.

My conference is being held at Stanford. I live in Chicago, though, so there would be no way for me to go unless it was an expense-paid trip. I hope they pay for the traveling expenses.

ALSO, I don't think they were offering laptops this year. It's not listed as part of the scholarship if you check the website. They offered them last year, though.

From my understanding - the top 10 get summer scholarships
50 get admissions counseling
and the others get conferences

All are Questbridge College Prep winners
the laptop and SAT prep were last yr's award.

rosh. u got rejected from that african american at notre dame?
they only give u a one day in advance notice.
=/

we should just email them. If is ALL Expenese paid, I REALLY wish I picked Stanford or Yale. Dang, I just picked the closest one so that my parents can drive me there.

"Thank you for applying for the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship. Although your accomplishments and qualifications are impressive, we are unfortunately not able to offer you an award. College Prep Scholarship applications are evaluated for both academic excellence and financial need, and other students who applied demonstrated greater financial need."

i'm glad they at least said it was because i wasn't poor enough, and not the other stuff on the application

murky water. i also got exceptional
but what counseling did you get?
like from a school counseling service?
is there anything beyond "exceptional"?
hey if ur from chicago
it takes 4-5 hours to get from chicago to California
how is this a 1 DAY conference? =/

wow this thread is growing really fast! every 2 sec is like 10 posts!!
kai, I am from near Pasadena

what is the counseling thing? like one on one help?
