Should I rank schools for the National College Match? The school I want to go is Duke and wondering if I should apply through the Match or through ED?
@celbauasch these national scholarship programs are hard to get, there is no denying that. Furthermore, QuestBridge technically isn’t a scholarship program. QuestBridge doesn’t give scholarships. QuestBridge helps finalists match with college partners, which provides the scholarships. Additionally, don’t give up! There are many more scholarships and opportunities out there. I’m not saying that the outcome didn’t hurt me or you or others who didn’t become finalists. I’m just trying to say continue to persevere despite this setback. If you are looking for scholarships there is the Horatio Algers Scholarship that is due on October 25. Gotta do that soon! Best of luck!!!
@missacademy2018 QuestBridge prouds a lot upon its holistic review process, yet it seems you are arguing that essays were the main difference maker in the process. Believe me, there are many people in this program who fits all the criteria perfectly as an exceptional and resilient student and writer who worked through adversities yet got rejected by QuestBridge. There are also people who did not write good essays yet recieved essays. Honestly, I think this process may be somewhat similar to the college admissions process. I do not have the right answer to this QuestBridge decision, but over the many mock applications for college process that I have done, I noticed a continuous trend. The trend involved a student with a well-rounded and exceptional personality and achievements. In the end of the mock admissions process, that particular student was rejected solely based on the fact that the student may not choose the mock college to attend because it is not challenging enough or the student has many other opportunities open to them because of the well-roundedness and achievements. I am NOT saying that finalists don’t have the qualifications. I’m really just trying to say is that this entire process is very spontaneous with no identifiable pattern or trend. Congratulations!!!
@gwbush I understand what you mean. I got rejected too and cried for an hour…again. I just keep on getting rejected from programs, from the CPS, the Gates Scholarship, the many college visitation scholarships, and now the NCM. I cannot argue that these rejections did not break the fragile confidence and esteem I built over the past 4 years or how bitter and angry I feel because I’m trying to redeem myself of my accomplishments that should have made me qualify. It definitely hit me hard after the rejection, partly due to the fact that I’m more prideful and less humble. Actually, I think that is partly due to people around who tell me to be prideful of my achievements through my applications. Nonetheless, this crappy outcome is like any other downs in my life. There will be an even better opportunity for me as well as you. You got this!!!

@theboyoverthere If I understand correctly, you had to submit your ranked colleges by Oct12th. I also think you are not allowed to apply ED or EA outside of Questbridge.
@theboyoverthere I just checked the QB site and if you didn’t rank colleges you are free to apply ED or EA.
did anyone else (finalist) rank USC or Chicago?
We are supposed to use the Common app or coalition app but they don’t have the ‘questbridge finalist’ option and USC doesn’t even have the early decision or early action option on it.
Most schools do the regular decision option
Has anyone ranked the University of Southern California? Apparently they’re asking for the Common App with the USC writing supplement, and I’m a little confused. Do I have to write a new 650 word essay on the Common App…? Is that the writing supplement, or is there another prompt that I’m unable to find…? I sound ridiculous right now, but if anyone knows, that would be…helpful.
@waitingforwinter Just reuse one of your QB essays.
