So excited that I’m a college prep scholar!Totally did not expect to get in as I believe many deserved this opportunity and probably my stats were a bit weaker.Anyways just in case here are my stats:
SAT: 1840 (not the greatest I know and I honestly thought that this score could be the reason why I might possibly might be rejected)
PSAT:178 ( ;( )
PLAN: 25 (Sadness again)
AP Scores: AP World=4
Unweighted G.P.A. : 3.5-1st semester and 3.9 first quarter of second semester
Weighted: Usually from freshman year I had a 4.3 and then Sophmore year had a 4.5 and then suddenly i went to a 4.4 for Junior Year First semester.
Junior Year Second Semester 1 Quarter: 4.6
Junior Course Rigor: 3 APs, 2 honors and one regular
EC’s: Library Assistant (3 years)
Tutor k-6 (2 years)
Summer Reading Buddy for Low-Income children and bilingual children (3 years)
Summer Reading Game Program( 3 years)
Pre-Med Club (2 years) -Raised funds and stuff
Creative World Club ( Celebrate art from different cultures)
Creative Writing Club
Note: Usually, in these EC’s I did not carry leadership potential, but I did write about how I was able to demonstrate my personal interests in the programs and how I did help supervisors to run the summer and library programs. For clubs, I guess, they person who read my application saw my personal passion in the clubs and showed my personal side hobbies.
Teacher Recommendation: Honestly, I don’t think my math teacher wrote the greatest rec,but it was okay and I am thankful I found one teacher who could write it.
Rank: 28/1000~about 2%
School Type: Public California school suffering from budget cuts that has 4,000 students
Essays: Personally, I was totally blank on what to write about because it is just so difficult to open up and to talk about one’s own personal struggles and issues. But, soon I just picked out a moment that I still remember till this day about how I personally struggled in elementary school with English because my parents were never able to teach me on how to speak English. Also, in my personal statement I wrote about personal financial struggles my parents went through and how those encouraged me to take a stance and take a strong interest in education and look forward into the future.
Short answers basically talked about my interest in neuroscience, volunteering and tutoring. Mostly, I think they liked my short answer response on what’s one thing I would like to change about society.
Family Income: Last year was 30,000 ,but after my father lost his job now it’s 20,000 along with about $40,000 debt family has. My parents also are helping to fund my grandmother’s and uncle’s finances since we live together.
Ethnicity: Asian Indian ( parents are originally from a rural part)

Personally, I just believe I was lucky to win the Stanford Conference and nomination for campus trip because honestly I didn’t believe I had the brightest grades, test scores and ec’s to get in. Or maybe I’m just not seeing what the reader saw in my application and decided to accept me. I guess my essays tended to have the unexpected vibe in which I wrote about subjects totally different than what the readers thought I would write about. Also, in additional information section~I wrote how after my father lost his job, we went through a time in which we were supposed to move because we couldn’t afford living with my grandma and also I wrote how my grades are going grade in first quarter of second semester and wrote about how I am beggining a trainee job at a local hospital.Honestly, I believe many of those who got rejected deserved this scholarship too,but don’t worry. Honestly, you all have a great future ahead. I don’t know that about me,but still many of the people on this forum are doing great in school:)
