Questbridge College Prep Scholarship 2014

I really wish we had a definitive results date! They should know when they’ll be releasing by now, but we must wait in agony :(( . Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but the summer programs also individually contact one, so that still leaves things up in the air even once QB releases results. Oi baby :-S

I think my personal statement was good for it being the first one I’ve ever written. While it would be great to become a CPS, it would be even better to become a Match Finalist! I’m happy that I have these essays and material to get me started.

@kei04086 I can’t do volunteer work. :frowning: I don’t have anyone to drive me to the events and stuff
@chaoticpuppy If you mean like the stay on campus for a few weeks, I don’t know. All the people that got awards from Questbridge last year, from my school, got the conference.
@screamingpumpkin Yeah I thought mine was good also. :smiley: At lest we got a taste of what senior year will be like. Which is why I have started writing my statements from now lol.

Ah! I finally found the Questbridge 2014 forum ^^ I’m just as anxious as everyone else!
@Migoto‌ Ah! I can understand! I hope they don’t put too much weight into community service. It’s very difficult for me to get to places because I don’t have a car.
Do they email us no matter what, even if we didn’t get the scholarship? I wouldn’t like to be waiting, believing that I still have a chance when I don’t :slight_smile: I guess I’ll post my stats haha:
ACT: 31 (33 English, 35 Reading, 27 Math, 27 Science, 8 Writing)
ACT: 28 (36 English, 27 Reading, 24 Math, 24 Science) (Haha, what a change! :"> )
GPA Simple/Weighted: 3.782/4.136
Rank: 27 out of 370
Income: :stuck_out_tongue: Less than like $5,000 (It worries me because what if they think I’m lying XD)
Extracurriculars: Marching and concert band (which takes up a ridiculous amount of time haha), chess club, anime club, a leadership seminar, and a Harvard CS50 class.
Honors: Honor Roll for the last two years
I want to feel confident, because I’ve come to understand that those who believe that they will receive an award tend to receive them more often. However, I can’t help but feel a little doubt tugging at me. Anyhow, I still hope greatly that I will receive at least one award of any size. If you bothered to check out posts like these, I imagine that you’re the kind of person that will have a higher chance with this scholarship. Anyway, good luck to everyone ^^!!!

Guys! Does anybody know QuestBridge will release the results?! Also, how bad is 1270 (2 score) or a 1870 3 score on the SAT? Will it EXTREMELY hurt my chances for NCM?

Stats: 3.88/5.8
Rank 1 out of 700
less than 50k
lots of EC and leadership positions

I dont know about making NCM but an 1870 will hurt your chances a lot at the schools partnered with NCM.

I heard last year results came out on the 22nd of April, so hopefully around same time. wish had more time to look over my personal statement, it wasn’t as strong wanted be. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t plan things out haha.
GPA: UW=4.00 W=4.26
SAT= 590 W, 600 R, 730 M (1920 COMP)
RANK= 7/410
Less than 50,000
Middle Eastern
Founder/president of 2 programs/clubs, academic decathlon, debate team, community service~130 hrs. Involved in religious community and 2 other clubs in school.Member of football team for 2 years.

Yeah it was on a monday last year, so it should be sometime today hopefully. And @fali15 , were you able to list all those ECs in your activities list on the CPS app? They gave us a tight limit.

Did anybody here achieve a 34 or higher on their ACT?

@drbio101 , Yeah they gave us a pretty limited number of entries, but i was able to add in almost everything by using the entries, and also I managed to, sort of, mention other activities in short answers and personal statement. I just sort of weaved them in briefly.

@drbio101‌ I got a 36

@fali15 I get what you mean. Good idea!

and woah @kei04086 thats insane! Can you please tell me what books and techniques (or anything else that would help) that got you that score? Everything is good on my apps except for my test scores. My diagnostic right now is pretty low, around 28 (first exposure to ACT ever, experience from the SAT mainly). I want to do whatever it take to get a 34 at least, for the june ACT.

@kei04086‌ My school weighs the AP"s on a 6.0 scale, honors classes on a 5.00, and regular on a 4.00. So pretty much the same thing as you just one bumped up. Don’t worry too much about that anyways btw colleges don’t really take weighted into consideration at all seeing as the numbers vary tremendously across the United States.

@drbio & @kei04086 Drbio I think your scores are fine. :smiley: If you want to retake and get them higher go for it. I personal only want a 1900 but I am still shooting for that 2400. However I don’t really need the 2400 I know one girl that got into Stanford w/ a 1400 on the SAT but was a really good poetic writer and had a 4.7 GPA her senior year. At my school currently there was a dude that got a 1950 on SAT and got into Dartmouth on a full ride through Questbridge NCM. Dartmouth also told him, “If any other Ivy school gives you a better finical aid package tell us, we will match it.” He also got into Emory and MIT, his 1st choice, through Questbridge. So I think your scores are fine, grades and scores are not everything. Also if you still don’t believe me here are some links you might want to check out, that show everyone w/ a high SAT/ACT score does not always get in.

ONE MORE DAY YOU GUYS :D…or at lest I hope so. <_<

I found my ACT score today and I got a 35 :slight_smile: Too bad I can’t use it for college prep scholarship :/

@Inertmuse actually I think you can still send it. I know on the application they said if there are any new updates to send it to them. Although it is already late April and they probably already made the decisions and just waiting to ship them out. You can still try though. :D

Haha well I think they already made decisions as well. I’ll see if I can try

@migoto thank you for the words! Hopefully the lucks in my favor then haha

@inertmuse congrats!!! Can you please share on how and what you used to get your score? It’ll help a lot!

@Migoto‌ Too bad I can’t figure out how LOL

@Migoto‌ Yah the upload button is not there anymore
@drbio101‌ Well I’ll see if I can break it down. C: 35 E: 35 M:36 R:34 S:35
I am a very math and science orientated person so those two sections were no problem what so ever. My high school teaches math well beyond the level the ACT tests. To help with that, it depends on why you are scoring low. If it is because you don’t understand the topic, then KhanAcademy/ Google is the way to go. If it is because you make mistakes or have particular trouble in some questions but not the subject, just keep on taking practice tests. Science in ACT is NOT Science. You don’t have to be good at science to do well on it. It is purely can you read empirical data and interpret it. I had a bit of time issue with this ACT because this was my first time. But to help make sure you don’t read the entire article in science section, but instead go directly to the question and look for the answer within the article/data. There is always a distinctive answer so don’t assume anything. Just find the answer. For English I would recommend finding SAT grammar rule packets online and just memorize them. Afterwards it is just straight practice since it is just a rotation of a couple rules. For reading, I also had time issues. I would suggest looking at the questions first and see what you need to deal with. Some questions could be answered by just skimming the passage. But other than that it is practicing! Standardized testing follow a general format and once you do a lot of practice tests you can anticipate the questions. This link is great if you want practice tests: http://www.mrhosman.com/ACT/10_ACT_Practice_Tests.pdf</a>
