Heheh. Okay, that’s just funny. You’re totally right, though, I spent so much time alternately stressing and zenning out these applications… Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Has anyone received emails from schools encouraging them to apply ED? I am a college advisor at a public high school. One of my students (who was not matched), has received two emails from schools she ranked encouraging her to apply ED. Are these just standard emails they send to all the QB students that ranked their school? Or is this email more than that? I’m hoping the schools are trying to tell her she will be accepted, but my gut is telling me that they are just standard “form” responses.

I just got the email I was waiting for from MIT last night telling me to apply early action which is standard for them if anyone ranked the school, Amherst also emailed me encouraging me to apply early decision and I did not even rank them. For some colleges it is just a standard email, I’m not sure about all the colleges though.

I talked with an admissions counselor today for S top school (non-match). He has since had 4 emails requesting he apply ED (of which 3 were not ranked). According to AC: advantages of ED is that Son would know by Mid Feb-conversely he would also know wether he needs to add schools to apply to before May. She also said that the school would either accept or decline. The school is more inclined/generous to arrive at a YES then. If they cannot arrive to a YES they certainly will not arrive to it at a later date. She also mentioned a majority of the the accepted class comes from ED. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Sigilkynd191 and EOW2012. I called one of the non-matched schools who sent the student an email encouraging them to apply ED. They said that there were more QB students that were interested in but could only select 7 for the College Match.

did anyone else get an email a week before the match notifications to apply ED to a ranked school? is this seen as a good sign?

How many did Stanford match?

In the year my daughter was matched, a few people received letters that were absolutely “likely” letters, and in fact, they were accepted ED. The best thing is to go to the facebook group and ask the group if ‘everyone received’ correspondence a or b. In my daughter’s year a girl even got a phone call from Dartmouth, followed by a letter that let her know she was part of a select group, and they really wanted her to apply ED. (She was accepted about one week after the match was announced) If only a few got the same email-then yes, it is probably a ‘likely’ invitation. In my daughter’s year, those who followed through were accepted ED, and the financials were almost identical to what they would have been if they had been matched.
However, if I might repeat a cautionary tale:
One QB finalist got a “likely” from Brown and a few other schools-she was one of only a few that received the email. Unfortunately, she went on facebook and trashed a few of those schools. She was the only QB finalist we know of that was not accepted to a single QB school. (And her stats were very high).

Re: MIT: Specific instructions are on the QB page if you ranked them, or did not rank them. I can say that most of the QB people who applied ED were deferred from MIT to the regular decision round. Bear in mind the astronomical number of applications they receive world wide. It IS MIT. The one applicant that I know of that was accepted ED made it clear from day one that MIT was his ONLY choice.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but are Match recipients supposed to follow up with the new contact at the college?
It says an admissions representative will contact me in the coming weeks, but should I be calling first?

So was anybody on here matched with Vassar? And did anybody else get the email from Vassar?

Did anyone get an email from Columbia about applying to Columbia ed? I ranked Columbia but did not get matched. The email was more personal than the other email. If it is some sort of likely, I would be stoked. Don’t worry, I won’t trash my match schools on Facebook :). However, I am a bit disappointed with Rice. They never received my transcript even though my gc sent it 3 times. But I am not trashing. Mistakes do happen. Anyway please someone answer my question plzzzz with cherries on top.

MIT, nobody can tell you for sure if it is a “likely” letter but if your number one cboice is Columbia, go for it ED. They will know of your intent since you ranked them and now are going ED. Good luck

In my daughters year, people actually posted the entire likely or not likely letters for the facebook group. It helps to have other people look at it and tell you what they think. Just ask the group: Did anyone else who ranked Columbia get this letter…and perhaps post the relevant parts of the letter. Is there a signature at the end? A contact? Then call that contact. (Often it is the QuestBridge contact-they are more amenable to disperse information!) If you are not on facebook, PM a copy of the letter to me, I’m not an expert, however, I’ve seen alot of these letters! LOL.

I am a finalist, however I was not matched to a QB school. Stanford was my number 1 ranking, but I have not received any emails from them? Is this a bad sign? From what I am aware of I cannot apply EA or ED to Stanford, only RD. Are there any steps I should take to increase my chances of getting accepted?

@berryblue96 I’m with you, same thing. retaking any test (SAT/SATII/ACT) will really help if you have scores you think you can improve, although if you’re already in the 2100s or 32+ you should be fine…

berryblue96, sending an update with any important additions to your application is always a good idea. The match apps were completed so early in the year that in some schools, officers hadn’t been elected yet, etc. If you have any awards, leadership positions, new improved test scores, or athletic accomplishments, you can update your file with these but do make sure they are not trivial and are not something you trumped up/started/joined in order to beef up your application! Those kinds of things will be obvious and detract from a serious application. But many students do have updates since they submitted - if any team you are on, academic or athletic, has significant winnings, that would be an appropriate update…you probably know if you have anything to report :)…

I’m so happy I got matched with tufts ! Anyone else ? I haven’t read the whole thread! Congrats to everyone that was matched and good luck to those that weren’t !

@calipretty3 I have a 2130 on the SAT I, but definitely have to retake the SAT II which I am doing this weekend. The applications had to be done so early, I really wish I was able to improve my essays, haha.

@honeybee63 Oh okay that makes sense! I am worried because I applied as an engineering major… do you think this is a disadvantage for me? I am taking my second year of AP Calculus, but other than that, the rest of my classes aren’t really “engineering focused” you could say. This is because I didn’t realize I really wanted to do engineering until about a month into senior year. I am just wondering if you think this could be an issue? If you’re not sure, don’t worry about it. Thank you!
