Hello,
I have a question regarding UF Business School and their credit limit.
To quickly summarize my situation:
Approximately four years ago I completed an Associate’s Degree at a New Jersey community college. At the time, I was young and had no clue as to what field of study I wanted to pursue for my Bachelor’s, so I simply completed a General Education major.
Between then and now, I moved to Gainesville for work, and I developed a love and fascination towards the world of finance, and very much want to pursue a degree in finance, specifically, in UF’s Heavener School of Business. To my dismay, however, I saw the following on their admissions page:
“Applicants will not be eligible for admission if: They have earned 90 transferable hours”
Unfortunately, during my time in community college I did not take any of the pre-requisite courses necessary. My plan was to take all the necessary pre-requisite courses (and their pre-requisite courses) in Santa Fe, which I am in the process of doing, and transfer to UF business. However, those classes, in addition to my 65 credits from my old community college, will put me over the 90 credit “limit” by a few credits.
I guess my question is, would UF business accept all of my 90+ credits (thus make me ineligible), or will they only accept certain credits and keep me under the 90 credit limit? Is there any work-around for this?
Looking into course transfers, it seems as though the majority of my classes would fall under elective courses. For instance, I took some irrelevant math classes at the time (i.e. Contemporary math) which wouldn’t count as anything and something like survey calc would ‘overlap’ with that course.
As such, looking at it logically, most of my credits towards a BS that would actually count towards the BS would come from UF as many of the classes are ‘useless’ from my AA. Like, say I need 20 elective credits, I’d come in with like 40. It’s only undergrad courses and no higher level business courses.
So, to me it would make sense that they’d only accept 60 (or however many) of my credits and simply disregard the rest, but my worry is they’ll somehow consider all 90+ credits and deny me.
Does anyone with knowledge on the matter have any information they can provide? I’d very much appreciate it. It’s very stressful and frustrating.
Apologies for the wall of text and thanks so much for your time.
