Hey everyone,
I'm currently in CP English IV (Regular), and am planning on taking the AP Language and Composition exam. However, on my UC application, I put that I would be taking the Literature and Composition exam (since I didn't have much knowledge at the time and just wanted to take the exam). However, I just talked to my teacher and she definitely recommends that I take the Language and Composition Exam. I've also heard that the Language and Composition exam is a lot easier. My question is, do you guys think that it would make a drastic difference in my UC admissions chances if I call each of the campuses up and tell them that I decided to take the Language and Composition exam? My alternative option is that I could sign up for the Language and Composition Exam in addition to the literature and Composition Exam and take them both. I know it's going to be difficult, but I may just have to do it. Which do you recommend?
The reason I'm asking is AP Exam registration is due next week and I want to make sure that I pay for the right exam.
Also, I'm currently in IB Pre-Calculus (Mathematical Studies SL) and was wondering if it would be advantageous for me to do the IB Project and Exam. I didn't mention that I would take the exam or do the project in any of my applications.

Thanks in advance!
-P.S. Sorry about the long post, I'm slightly worried right now to say the least lol

Your school has people in IB classes not taking exams or doing the required internal assessments for them? I know this is common in AP but not really with IB (I'm sure a school COULD do it, it's just not the way it's generally structured). Are you sure taking the exam is an option? The deadline to register for May '07 has passed (it was several months ago...I'm sure there's some late registration, probably costs a lot. Might have passed though because IAs are starting to be due, now or in the next few weeks, depending on the exam schedule for the course). I would think if colleges saw an IB class on a schedule, they would assume you're fulfilling the exam requirements since I'm not sure it's really an option for accredited schools to have people not take the exams (I could be wrong). I mean the IBO would have to audit the program and find out if that is the case (not even sure if it is), but most schools are really careful because they can lose their diploma program.

Yes, apparently, the majority of students in the IB Class are not taking the exams. I believe about four months ago my teacher asked who was going to take the exam, not knowing the specifics, I answered that I would do so. So perhaps he registered me on the basis of that. But I have not paid for an exam as yet. Any advice about the situation I have with AP Literature?
-Thanks

Well in our county we don't pay for exams ourselves so maybe your county/school also does that. In that case you wouldn't have had to pay. I think you need to talk to your teacher about whether you're registered for this exam or not.

I don't know much about the difference between Lit and Lang. However I don't think it should hurt your chances that badly. Do UCs look at AP scores as part of admissions? Either way I think you should notify them about the change because you don't want to look like you're doing any funny stuff and trying to "game" the system, even though it was an honest mistake. But unless they weight AP tests heavily then I don't think it should affect your admissions. I don't see the point in taking both - in that case just take the Lit alone I'd think, since the scores won't affect admission and you'd be fulfilling what you put on your application. Unless you're trying to get cerdit but I think placing out English requirements is kind of hard at most schools anyway.
