Say I do poorly and I don't send an AP score in to the college I apply to. The AP class still shows up on my transcript though. Can the college I apply to ask the Collegeboard to see the score? AKA if I do poorly but choose not to send them the score, can it still hurt me? Same with SATs. If I take it once and do poorly, and then take it again and send the second score, can they ask to see the first one/can colleges find out how many times you've taken the SAT? I still have yet to actually take it for college though, so no worries as of now, but I'm just wondering.
Thanks!

Collegeboard won’t release your scores without your consent. Unless the colleges that you apply to are super good at bribery and are very, very persuasive.

I don’t think think the colleges can legally go to the collegeboard and demand to see your scores/how many times you took the SAT. However, keep in mind that some colleges require you to send ALL scores for the SAT (i.e. reject score choice). If you don’t tell them an AP score but have the class, it looks like you either didn’t take the test or scored very poorly. I think most people take the test two times, so that shouldn’t be bad. It only becomes a problem if you take it like 4 or 5 times.

Thanks for both replies
Clinegirl: in the case that the AP turns out to be a bad score and shows up on your transcript that you still took the class, do you think it would be better to send them the score and an explanation of why it was bad (I could only take the second semester of a year long class, and I’m pretty far behind now…) or would it be better to just omit it and risk them thinking you didn’t take it/scored poorly?

Thanks!

“Yo, melin720, I didn’t ask you.”

The latter is better. If you send it and explain it they’ll regard it as whining. But if you’re a future New York Times Best Seller maybe you can whip something out that’s very convincing.

sorry melin720! it’s just that clinegirl brought up the “looks like you either didn’t take the test or scored very poorly.”
it’s directed at you too!
alrighty then… i’ll just have to study like there’s no tomorrow, hope for a good score, and if not, oh well. bad mark on my transcript :/
