Question about assist

Do any of you have any experience with recommended courses on assist? I'm going to apply to UCSB's Bio Anthro major. At first I was thinking I might have a slim chance of getting accepted because I'm missing Principles of Biology 1 & 2, but it says that it's recommended I take these classes not required. I also looked online at the major requirements and it also says Bio 1&2 is recommended; it does not list these courses as prerequisites, nor does it account for them in the total unit count.

Biological Anthropology at UCSB: <a href="http://my.sa.ucsb.edu/Catalog/Current/Documents/2012_Majors/LS/Anth/Anth_BA_Biological_2012.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://my.sa.ucsb.edu/Catalog/Current/Documents/2012_Majors/LS/Anth/Anth_BA_Biological_2012.pdf</a></p>

Look at the prerequisites: Anthro 2,3,5,79
Right under it says recommended(Bio 1&20). Does that mean I don't have to take these classes? My chances will obviously drop, right? So far I only have 2 prerequisites and missing another 2 that are not offered at my school. One of them you can only take at UCSB, so I guess I'm missing only one.

Obviously the more prereqs you can complete (whether required or not), the more competitive you will be as an applicant. Do what you can and hope for the best.
