Question about average GPA for incoming Freshmen

So I was on the common data set looking at Georgia Tech’s admissions stats. I went to GPA and was surprised that it was 3.95. I don’t know if this is weighted or unweighted. If this is unweighted, then that is amazingly good and I have to rethink that Georgia Tech is a bit of a safety for me. However, if this is weighted, that is not good at all and I am well above that. Does anyone know if it is weighted or unweighted? Thanks

Based on your other posts you are a sophomore in high school. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get in GT. The GPA averages will be higher by the time you apply. So I wouldn’t worry about whether this is a weighted or unweighted GPA. Just try your best.

GT has mentioned several times in phone calls, emails, and blogs that they are not interested in a certain GPA because high schools calculate it in many different ways rendering it useless. Instead, they look for course rigor based upon what your high school offers, and an overall A average in rigorous classes.

MichiganGeorgia is right. Who cares what the average GPA is? It means nothing to you. Would you try less if it was lower? Just try your best and improve your application to the best of your ability.

@XAtlas I would not try less, but I would raise my hopes about getting in

Apply by Oct 15 for best chance at GT. GT seems to be unlikely to be a safety if you are OOS, given that ACT=36 GPA unweighted 4.0 are routinely rejected from GT during RD for OOS applicants. In state may be a very different story, but I am gathering that declaring CS or BME as an applicant, could make it harder, not certain of that. If you are in state, consult your counselor about your chances, but make a sensible list of five colleges with some safeties where, your stats are WAY ABOVE the average. (Test scores, class standing and GPA).

@Coloradomama thanks, I was already planning on applying early action so hopefully that will help
