Hello, I will graduate HS in 2017 and I was wondering which standardized tests I should take. I’ve asked a question similar to this before. My three options are the current SAT (would take in January), the redesigned SAT (would take in March and maybe retake in the fall), or the ACT (not sure when I should take it). The deadline for registering for the current SAT is December 28, so I really need an answer soon. I’ve been taking some practice tests for the current SAT and have gotten a range of scores from 2080-2240. I like the questions on the current SAT, the only thing I am not sure about is how well I would do on the essay, seeing as I don’t know how to practice that. Is this score range considered good for schools like USC, Northwestern, UPenn, Rice, UCLA, etc.? Because if they are, then I might as well take the current SAT.
As far as the redesigned SAT, I took the PSAT in October, and the questions seemed all right (I hate those “which line supports your previous answer” ones though), but the scores only come out on January 7th so I don’t really know where I stand regarding that. My college counselor says that I should skip the current one and just take the new one, so that if I am unhappy with my score I can retake it, but I feel like I might miss an opportunity to get an even better score on the current one. Also, there is less prep and practice test available for the new one.
And regarding the ACT, I really have no idea when to take that. My school and the college counselor really haven’t talked about that test too much, but from what I’ve heard online, it is much like the redesigned SAT. Should I take all three of these tests, or depending on my score should I assess the situation and go from there?
Sorry for the long post, but I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter!
