question about cornell interview.

hey guys,

i know that most schools do interviews by alumni location, but i've heard differently about cornell.

i know that you have to interview for some schools within Cornell- like the Hotel School, but for the schools that don't require interviews-- do you get chosen through some selective process or just because of an alumni in your area?

It all depends on how active your area's alumni chapter is. These interviews are mainly for informational purposes, and don't play a significant role (if any) in the admissions process like Hotel or AAP.

D applied RD to College of Human Ecology and was offered an interview with a Cornell alumni in early December- which she enthusiastically took advantage of. Interview went well- alum. provided information she anticipated by reading the CAAN website- thanks to CC posts. He also asked D a number of questions about why Cornell, CHE, etc. and emailed to let her know he would be submitting a positive evaluation. Since we thought the interview was for informational purposes only, D was pleased. Only one other person from her school has applied to Cornell and was not contacted to interview.

@greentopazz - I don't think applicants get chosen by some selective process for the interview; I applied ED and no-one interviewed me despite the fact that there are a few Cornell alumni in my country (UAE) who conduct interviews. I was really worried that they weren't considering me seriously as they didn't interview me but I got accepted anyway, so don't worry about it.

the interview is very laid back and your interviewer does a lot of talking about his or her experience at Cornell. Make sure you have questions for who ever is interviewing you.

A Cornell alumn phoned me today to schedule a meeting. He said it would not be a formal interview, but rather a meeting to discuss the school and a chance to put a "personal face" to the application process. Has anyone else heard of something like this? Will this take the place of my interview...?

lol interview doesn't matter. "my" interview interviewed 15 kids from my HS at the sametime. i wouldn't call it a interview, even though she said "group interview". all she did was talk about her experience and answer questions (only like 2 people asked questions) and that was it. i just sat there and dozed off
