is it wise to schedule courses so that I have two finals on one day? Should I space them apart?

Coming from someone who had two finals on one day last semester, I personally would never do that again. I had one at 12:30-3:30pm (P chem)then another at 5-8pm (gen chem). That was terrible coz I was falling asleep midway through the second one. In addition, I had another final the next day at 8am which did not leave any time to review. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but I would definitely not have two finals in one day if I can help it. If you have great time management skills when it comes to reviewing for finals then it's a good idea. But it's good to think about the unforseen too. What if you fall ill during finals? Eh, that's just me =)

If you can, it's nice to have them spaced apart, but I dont' think it should have a huge influence on what you take. Personally, I think other factors are more important, but you should do what you can to avoid 2 finals on the same day, and especially 3.

WHAT?!?? Some people STAY HEALTHY during finals??? HOW?!!?

I'd rather frontload all my finals so I can go home early.

I have one on Tuesday from 8-11am, then another one 5-8pm
Then nothing Wednesday
Then I have one on Thursday and then one more on Friday.
That sounds okay right?

I had math for an 8:00 final and then chem later on at 5:00 and I can tell you that I was dead tired during the middle of that chem final and probably did affect my performance on it. So I wouldn't recommend taking 2 finals on the same day but it is doable.

like drab said, there are other factors that i think are more important in choosing a class, such as professor or time, rather than finals schedule. however, i guess if you do have that luxury you should try and space them out more. i mean people have 2 finals on the same day all the time. if you have 3 in 2 days that really sucks - you really have to prepare for that. I have a friend who took 3 in one day and that's about the worst situation you can get yourself into.

I had 3 on the same day last semester and it sucks

i think two in one day is fine but three in one day is death...

yup, my brain was dead in the third one.

Though most of the posters here have discussed issues of endurance and freshness when taking exams, also consider your study habits. Most students proscrastinate when it comes to studying, especially if you have later exams and there's a lengthier down period between final day of classes and examination blocks, or between one exam and the next. Now, if you have a pair of exams on one day, you must be able to plan your time accordingly so as to study equally for both courses. If you have one exam one day, and another the next, the tendency is to study heavily for the first one and then you will find yourself cramming like crazy for the second one because you spent too much time studying for the first. Considering your grade will be influenced (to various degrees, but often significant) by how you perform on your final, "frontloading" time for the sake of saving a few days to go home earlier is not advisable. If spacing exams apart means your having to stay in school for an additional four days in school, albeit with more time in between exams for studying, it is worth it for that extra bump in your grade that comes from reviewing materials; you've worked the entire semester, what's four days going to do to you? The best plan of attack is to space your exams as far apart as possible, if you can. If there's a two-day gap between each exam (assuming there are four classes), then in the worst-case scenario, whereby you didn't study at all for any of your classes, you will be able to catch up on materials for at least two days for each class. You may not need it, but that's not the point. Flexibility is key.

Best of luck,
