I am a junior in high school (in Texas) and am currently number 35 out of 618 in my class (top 5.66%) with the first semester of this year completed. I know that I can automatically get in to UT by being in the top 8 percent of my class and I should still be in the top 8 percent of my class when this year is over and will be able to apply with that class rank with my completed junior year. However, next year I must have to take some regular classes (health/speech etc) that will drop my gpa, plus I am thinking about taking only 5 classes and with a few unweighted classes, my gpa will obviously drop. If I am in the top 8% of my class when I apply but out of the top 8% of my class after one semester of my senior year then will I still be automatically accepted?

I believe you will still be auto-accepted. It is better to be in the top 8% after junior year and drop out of it senior year than to not be in top 8% after junior year.

You will definitely have auto-acceptance. The grades and rank they will look at for your application are the ones from the end of your junior year. Unless your grades drop thru the floor your senior year, they will not matter. UT will require a final transcript after graduation, but that is pretty much just to show you graduated.

man the classes you take next year wont affect you, when the year starts just send in the transcript from the 1st semester because it will just be grades from your Junior year,

so you will get in with or without the AP classes just apply before the deadline

If you’re able to, you could take the speech/health/etc classes pass fail. That way they won’t drop your gpa.

Ahh okay thanks for the help guys
