Question about Impacted Majors?

Hey! I am currently a junior (high school) right now, and UCSD is definitely my top choice.

Is Physiology&Neuroscience an impacted major? What about the Cognitive Sciences? And does UCSD accept people based more on their major choice or application (for example, is it easier for people to get into UCSD under a sociology major rather than a neuroscience major)?

Thank you! :)

The answer is UCSD does not accept people based on major choice but if it’s impact major and you are not ranked high on the list, UCSD will admit you to undeclared. You can google for impacted majors at UCSD website.

Double check on this, but I believe the bio majors have had their impacted status removed. Cog sci is not impacted as of right now, as far as I know. @DrGoogle‌ is correct with the second question.

Physiology/Neuroscience and Cognitive Science are both not impacted. So, if your top choice is a bio major, then just choose it and you can always choose CogSci as an alternative. Basically, if you are good enough for the school, it will take you in regardless of your major (different story for Engineering majors which are impacted).

I think most students are likely to be offered their first major, if not the second major of their choice, worst is undeclared but since bio majors are no longer impacted, you can basically declare it as your major through your computer (very easy) once you enter as a freshman.

I believe that people who came in undeclared at this point were those who picked, for example, comp engineering and bio engineering as their top two, but their stats weren’t high enough, so they were admitted as undeclared. These people though have to work hard to get into their desired major later. They have to take required lower division courses for their majors and have to earn decent grades to get into engineering.

However, for you, it won’t be easier to get into sociology compared to neuroscience since they are both not impacted.

How about Chem Eng?

Chem Eng is impacted.
I believe all majors within Jacobs School of Engineering are impacted at this point.
