question about intended major

First school S visited last April (as a junior) was RIT. Knew he was interested in some sort of engineering but hadn't narrowed it down yet. On his info sheet, he put down Engineering Exploration as a possible undecided major.

Fast forward to the present. After visiting a bunch of engineering schools, he's chosen chem E. So he gets a letter from RIT encouraging him to apply, along with a form to change his intended major.

Does he have to fill this out and choose a major now? Seems rather premature.

Thanks

If he is going to apply, there is a spot for the intended major on the application (I think you list more than 1 that you are interested in, if I am not mistaken - my son filled out his application a few months ago so I don’t remember).
I wouldn’t think it would matter what he put on his interest form, except if you change it on there then that department might send you some info.
