Does Columbia care for how long you've been a leader of a club/team/organization? In my school, leaders are usually the older kids so it's not really fair for those who've been in a club for a long time. If I were to have a lot of leadership roles but the majority in senior year and only a couple in junior, how badly would this affect my chances? I've looked at a lot of accepted students' applications and a lot of them had leadership roles, if not all. I really want Columbia, so I'm starting to worry if leadership roles will screw me over...

I don’t understand your question. If you join a group freshman year and are so dedicated to it that you become president as a senior, that looks better than if you just join a group as a senior and hold no position. If you join a group in freshman year and are dedicated to it, it still counts for something even if you never become president. But what exactly are you asking?

^^

I think that is exactly what he is trying to ask. Leadership roles are extremely important in my opinion. You should commit yourself to at least one group and stick there and try to get a leadership role. Make sure you choose a group that you truly have passion for!

yeah pwoods, that’s what i was asking for. i’m pretty dedicated to all the teams and clubs i’m part of, except i was worried that if i don’t become president or captain by the end of sophomore or junior year, it won’t really count that much.
