Question about NYU Stern and Columbia

Hi,

I was attending St.Johns University(Pharm D program) for 3 semesters and I received a 1.15 GPA. I transfered out to a community college and raised my GPA to a 2.25. By the end of this semester my GPA should be in the 3.5-3.7 range. If I wanted to transfer to NYU Stern or Columbia(Economics for Columbia) should i stay one more semester at the community college and attempt to raise my GPA to 3.8+? Also how are my chances with a 3.6 compared to a 3.8?

You know they are probably going to weigh your GPA from all the schools you attended right? Unless they say otherwise on their admissions site, they are going to consider your GPA from St. Johns and your GPA from community college which will probably result in a significantly lower GPA than you think you have. If you retook courses, the old grades are still on your record.

You are going to want to consider some safety schools when you apply to transfer (as would anyone who needs to transfer and is applying to competitive places). A higher GPA will always help out, so a 3.8 would be better, but I don’t know how that is mathematically possible given the numbers you said in your post. Please don’t take any of this as an insult, just trying to give you some decent advice so you don’t end up with not having a school to go to once you graduate from CC.
