I got 172 this year (sophomore)
CR 49
Math 68
Writing Skills 55
is that bad??
i mean.. i didn't study but am i like, stupid?

Haha, no you're not stupid.
I'm a sophomore too and most of the people in my grade got sub-200 scores (even the straight-A ones) because of not studying and not really taking it seriously.
But I guess that could show you what to work on for junior year (b/c of nat'l merit and all that) so basically writing/reading stuff. Your math score looks good though (which is totally inverted for me--I did well on the english stuff but my math score was the lowest).

Don't worry. I'm a sophomore and I got a 171.

CR - 49 XD
M - 60
W - 62

All of my friends did worst. The best score in my grade was a 212.

I know why my score was lower than I expected though. I didn't finish any of the sections on time, except the writing one...so if anything, I'm going to work on my speed.

You're above average! (I think..)

Yeah, the best score in my grade was around there too, Jman. My score was marginally higher than most and I'm definitely not freaking out but next year I want money. So I'll worry about it next year.

I wouldn't worry about it, but if you're out for the National Merit Scholar competition, I would get an SAT-prep book (it'll work for the PSATs). As a sophomore I got a 186, but as a junior I got a 221. Yay prep books! :]

thnx.. glad im not stupid

dont worry about it..i got a 197 (sophomore too) and all of our scores will probably go way up by this october..just study!
I got the best score in my grade btw :) hah im stupid

If you took the PSAT and SAT at the same time and did about the same on both, which would you get a better score in? Like are they scored exactly the same, or is a 2000 on the PSAT about the same as a 1900 on the SAT or something?

Because I'm only a sophomore, and I didn't take the PSAT this year, but my friend's mom signed us up for a free practice SAT at the local library and I wanted to know about what score I would've gotten on the PSAT.

PSATs are scored out of 240, SATs out of 2400

I'm not sure how valid the "multiply by ten for an estimate" thing is, since the SAT has a year's worth or so more math topics, as well as an essay. There are also other factors that may come into play for some student during one test or the other, like fatigue.

I'd suggest taking practice PSATs specifically if you're shooting for NM, and practice SATs for the SAT.

for the whole comparison thing, I took the PSAT at the beginning of the year, and I scored a 176. THen I took the May SAT (i needed a certain score to transfer high schools), and I scored a 1910. The section breakdowns are
PSAT SAT
M-53 640
CR-61 680
W-620 590

I think the math went up because of a full year of Algebra II. I also studied a tiny bit before the SAT (because it actually MEANT something), but mostly in the math.

edit- I'm a rising junior

My PSAT was 60 points higher than my SAT of that spring.

i got 180 this year as a 10th grader, but thats because i kinda fell asleep during the writing part... its because writing was last and i didnt care :(
70 math
70 reading
40 writing...

I got a 170 as a freshman...

I didn't do half the math, I mean why do work when it doesn't count for anything?

Top freshman score at my school that i know of was a 225, followed by a few 21X's.
Top sophomore was a 240, with some 22X's and a good number of 21X's.
We're a pretty good school though...

yeah your score is absolutely fine, especially math, thats way above average even for juniors. i got a 187 this year(soph) and im hopin for nat'l merit commended next year. We'll see...lol

It will go up a lot from Sophomore to Junior. I know I got a 204 as a Sophomore and a 221 as a Junior, with no studying at all (highest in my school - my school is... umm... "not competitive" would be an understatement).
