When I toured NYU, they told me that 1 rec. from a teacher and 1 rec from a guidance counselor should be more than sufficient. Any more than that will probably be ignored, unless it is of considerable importance.

However, the general consensus on these boards seems to be 2 teacher rec's and 1 guidance rec.

So what's the deal? Is it just like this in NYU? What about state schools(UMD, UTexas, Umich, etc)?

Well it depends on the school, I don't believe NYU participates in the common app program so there's no guarantee that you need two recommendations, just check each school's policy/requirement on teacher recs and you should be fine

hey Tony,

nyu does participate in the common app program. Also, I've checked up on the requirements for a few schools, and none of them specify how many rec's are required.

My problem lies in the fact that I know, for sure, which teacher to ask if 1 rec is the requirement. But I'd be in a bit of pickle if I had to pick another. So obviously I was pretty happy to hear that NYU only required 1 teacher rec...or so I thought. Everybody here keeps mentioning 2 teacher recs.
