Question about safety in Tech parking decks

Our daughter is presently enrolled this semester as Transient student at Tech. We live in the Greater Atlanta area and she will be commuting to campus three times a week.

Since there were a number of crime-related incidents recently involving Tech students, ( realize Atlanta police and Tech have worked together to resolve problem) I am concerned about her safety in the decks this fall as Day Light Savings ends.

Can some current Tech students tell me how they feel ( or would) about sister, girlfriend, mother, etc.) being in the on-campus decks after dark? I don't intend this as a sexist question-sons friends at Tech say this is not an issue for male students.

Advice, comments?
Thanks so much!

The issue at Tech isn’t on campus, it’s just off campus. The GT PD patrol the parking decks and parking lots, so those are pretty safe. Off campus, however, you are at the mercy of the APD, which doesn’t have the resources to patrol parking decks and parking lots.

As for decks: the Tech Square deck has a remote police station in the deck, garage-door like gates that close and open when a car goes through, and is continuously manned, so I wouldn’t worry about that parking deck. Peters, Curran, and the Student Center usually get a good bit of foot traffic because they are in populated areas, so that also isn’t too dangerous. I can’t speak for the State Street deck.

the parking decks should be safe, but i had a car break-in incident once in a residence hall parking lot. it was mainly my fault though. apparently i had forgotten to lock the doors. so they just randomly try out some car doors as they pass by and if they find any, they get in. I hadn’t had any damage to the car. :)
