How many classes would you recommend having in one day? And how many back to back (like say, 10 minutes in between each one)?

It really depends on what you can handle. I’ve had 5 classes in one day one semester, but in the fall I’ll have 3 classes MWF and 2 on TR. I think 3 is a safe bet, and at least 2 classes should be back to back. Otherwise you’ll have way too much spare time on your hands.

Three classes in a day with not more than two back to back. The time in between classes is nice if you need to do some last minute studying. Also, even if you are morning person, the people living on your floor may not be, so your life will be a little easier if you start classes a little later in the morning.

I prefer back to back classes. If I go home between classes, even just to grab a jacket or something I forgot, it is really hard for me to go back out and by the end of the semester I end up skipping, or unintentionally late. I prefer to take all my classes back to back, not more than three a day. I’ve had as many as five and it was livable, but make sure you leave adequate time for meals. I didn’t have so much as a bathroom break t/th once and that sucked. lol

So far I have 4 out of my 5 classes set. All 4 are T/R and they’re in two back-to-back bunches. Problematic?

Yeah. T/R classes are brutally long anyway and 4 is going to be really rough. I mean, if there’s no other option then you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, but that’s a rough, rough schedule.

I would say take class on the least amount of days as possible. I’ve had 4 a day and it didn’t bother me. I have 5 this semester. I like only getting up to go to class 2 or 3 days a week. I just don’t like going to class though. If you don’t mind going to class, spread it out.

My school only allowed four real classes per day (fifth class costs extra, not option for freshers). How you schedule it is up to you. Next semester, I’ll have two classes MWF and two classes TR. This past semester, I had four classes MWF, one class on Thursdays, and nothing on Tuesdays. It’s nice to have an entire day off from classes, but it makes MWF feel very stressful. I would sometimes have 3 tests on one day, or at least quizzes in every class.

I don’t mind taking a 3-hour class because when the break comes I’m not spending any time going somewhere else, but I don’t generally like to take more than 2 1-hour classes back-to-back and I don’t like to take 90-minute classes back-to-back. If 2 classes were close together in the same building I might do it, though.

I like to at least be able to get a snack and use the bathroom every 2 hours, and if I’m spending the “breaks” getting from one place to another, that’s hard.

But I’m also good at getting work done in an hour or an hour and a half between classes. If I tended to waste that time, I’d probably not want to space out classes too much, either.

I did once have a professor who ran at least 10 minutes late every single time and then the class I TA’d for 10 minutes later. That was really frustrating: there was no way to avoid annoying at least one of the profs. And there was no way out of it, because I needed the class and it wasn’t likely to be offered again soon and I had no choice in the matter of which class I TA’d for. Since then, I’ve been a lot more hesitant to schedule small classes back to back.
