Hello! I am new poster here (though a long-time lurker). My son got an audition for January 17. We haven’t yet received specifics (like exact time). Has anyone gone through the audition before? I am wondering how long we’ll be on campus. We are flying in from NY and he has a commitment early the next day that I am trying to figure out whether we should cancel or not. (Also, has anyone had experience not being able to get into Michigan due to inclement weather?) Thank you!!!
Cancel the next-day commitment. Not the audition!
Of course, it depends on the nature of the commitment on the next day, but January is a tough time for travel in the midwest. Frequent delays, cancellations, quick squall lines moving in causing rough road conditions,… The audition itself might not take a lot of time, but it would be an added stressor to feel the need to bolt right after the audition or be constantly watching the clock and the weather forecast. Good luck to him, though!
When my S auditioned there he had a morning audition that lasted about 15 minutes but then the professors asked him to meet with them later in the afternoon after they were done with auditions for the day. No guarantee that that will happen but it is possible.
Most schools we found were accommodating with travel needs. We had a few that we needed to be scheduled early in the day (so we could fly home for commitments the next day) and they were very supportive. It also helps if your ‘next day commitment’ is a music one!
Good point! Thanks for that! It’s so tempting to pack things in because of all the missed days due these auditions. But you are right. Best to be calm! Thanks!
It is, actually! It’s a precollege masterclass!
