If i was to sign up for the Dec 8th ACT date would i have to have the ACT automatically send scores to colleges of my choice in order for them to receive them by Jan 1st or would i have time to view the scores and then decide and be able to send them on my own?

If you really feel like you messed up, void the test before you leave the testing center.

The problem is that last year (Dec 9th), most of the scores came out anywhere from December 19th to December 31st. And with the new system, scores will probably take longer. I think it's 2.5 weeks instead of 1.5 now. So, I wouldn't trust the score reports to come out in time for you to send anything.

Is Jan. 1 an application deadline? If so, your scores might not have to be at the school by then. You could check with the school. If your scores do need to be there by Jan. 1, you better ask for them when you register. Most scores without writing still go out in 1.5 weeks, but most scores with writing take about three weeks (assuming you're testing in the US). Of course, there are those few that take seven weeks.

bump please..... i really want to retake the ACT but i am not confident enough that i will do better so i dont want to have to auto-send them for Dec8th would i have time to look at them then send?

If you do NOT take writing, I'd say there's a 75% chance you can get the scores to colleges by Jan. 1 even if you wait until you see them online and then send them.

If you DO take writing, I'd say there is some chance you could get them there by Jan. 1 if you "auto-send" them, but very little chance if you wait to see them online--maybe 10%, tops.

Again, check with colleges to confirm when the scores really need to be there.
