Question about Transferring to NCSU (engineering)

Hello. I need a bit of advice.

My goal is to go to NCSU for aerospace engineering next fall . I have been in a NC community college since Fall 2011 and was working on an A.A. degree up until this fall semester. I have looked at NCSU's minimum transfer requirements and meet all of them except for needing 2 classes, which I will be taking in Spring 2014. I was already eligible to graduate before the current fall semester, but after talking to an advisor at my school, I switched to the A.S. pre-engineering program because I still needed more classes in order to be eligible to go into engineering. I'm not close to finishing the A.S. degree, but if I switch back to the A.A. degree I will be able to graduate this spring.

So my question is, should I just stay in the A.S. pre-engineering program and the transfer after spring, or should I switch back to the A.A. degree and graduate in the spring before transferring?

Someone mentioned to me that if I go ahead and have the degree then when I transfer I won't have to worry about re-taking any gen ed courses at NCSU. Someone else told me that graduating would be a waste of time and I would be better off if I'm in A.S. pre-engineering. I'm really not sure what I should do. Any help is greatly appreciated.

With an associates degree you automatically have all of your general education requirements taken care of. If you don’t get your associates degree, then the general education requirements are much stricter and your classes might not transfer. Either way you have to have Calc I, Calc II, Phy I, Chem I and Eng I. If you don’t have all of those you have to take them before transfer.

No need to switch majors at this point. Just take the classes you need and get the AA if possible. When you graduate with a BS in engineering, the AA degree doesn’t mean much to a prospective employer.
